True Detective Season 1 “Seeing Things” Review

In the second installment of HBO’s True Detective, we dug deeper into Dora Lange’s murder, as well as the dark details of her life prior to her death. As much as I want to know who killed Dora, the most compelling moments of True Detective are proving to be the moments in which we learn more about Cohle and Hart.

I should apologize in advance because I suspect that each week I will remark about how visually stunning True Detective is. The cinematography is excellent – from the artistic shots of the bleak Louisiana backdrop, to the hazy views of Cohle and Hart as they move through the day-to-day events of their life during the Lange investigation. On any other show, the scene in which Cohle is “seeing things” would have come off a cheesy and a bit like a car commercial. On True Detective, however, it works.
