'Sherlock' Season 3 spoiler-free review: Death defeated, mystery remains

At long last, US audiences are going to view the return of "Sherlock" Season 3 on Sunday (Jan. 19). It's been almost two years since we saw Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) jump to his supposed death in the Season 2 finale, "The Reichenbach Fall." But Holmes didn't die, and neither did the series. Both are coming back.The mystery of that non-death remains at the center of the first of three "Sherlock" episodes this season. In "The Empty Hearse," Holmes returns to London. Most of his old world -- although not all of it -- has thought the detective dead throughout a period of many months. Theories about what could have happened abound and make their presence known throughout the episode.But the main focus of "The Empty Hearse" isn't Sherlock's fake death.
