I have read each of the books as they have been released, along with another of Charlaine's series, and I have to say that the books are much better. While I have enjoyed the show, it was a little disappointing after having read (and repeatedly re-read) the books.

I disagree, i don't think the tv version is this much better (except now you can put an image on everyone, and everything). i finished reading the third book last night and i just couldn't stop... but the show it also good, the plot is just slower because it's longer than just written words... Both are good anyway, and even reading the books before the show doesn't spoil that much, just makes me wanna see what they are going to do next with that!

I agree, and said in another post that it felt like the characters were spread a bit too thin and there wasn't enough "meat". I think it was more of a lead-up episode, they do that with Lost too. But I still loooovvee the show :)

The books are written by Charlaine Harris, and I think they're just called the Sookie Stackhouse novels or the Southern Vampire Series. There are 7 novels, I believe. I've read the first 3, after starting to watch the series. They're entertaining, but in my opinion, the tv version is much better...
