Sleepy Hollow Season 1 Finale Review “The Indespensible Man/Bad Blood”

Talk about a season finale! Holy goodness, Sleepy Hollow. It’s so unfair for you to leave me like this. There was a lot packed into this finale, and a few curve balls that I never saw coming. This finale left all of our heroes in varying precarious positions, and I’m not even sure all of them are going to make it. I’m feeling all kinds of different ways about this episode, but I’ll do my best to form coherent sentences.

Let’s just start with the elephant in the room. Henry Parrish is actually Jeremy Crane! Even more than that, Henry Parrish aka Jeremy Crane is the Horseman War! I can’t say I ever saw that coming. Everything that Henry aka Jeremy has done up to this point has been in an effort to help Hell win. The sad thing is, he doesn’t want to help Hell win because he thinks it’s right. He wants to help Hell win because he’s angry with his parents. He feels like they abandoned him and all of the horrible things that happened in his life are their fault. The reason he’s been helping Ichabod and Abbie was so that he could separate the witnesses, kill his parents, and bring on the Apocalypse. I guess I was supposed to hate Henry for what he did to Ichabod and Katrina, but in truth, I just felt sorry for him. He’s spent more than two centuries with this hatred festering inside. Then, when the demon came along and offered him a way to get revenge on those that hurt him, Henry bought what that demon was selling hook, line, and sinker. It doesn’t seem to matter to Henry/Jeremy why his parents made the choices they made. It doesn’t seem to matter to him that Ichabod didn’t even know he existed. It doesn’t seem to matter to him that both Ichabod and Katrina did what they thought was right to save and protect him. It’s really not their fault that things didn’t work out the way they’d hoped or planned. There’s no convincing Henry of that though. His fear, anger, and hate has consumed him and now I fear that he is beyond saving. He is beyond reason.
