American Idol Season 8 Episode 35 "Rock On" Review by Connie Norberg
With the legendary Rock Artist Slash as the mentor this week, I was pumped and ready for a great performance from the Top 4. It began with Adam Lambert singing, "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. Adam steals the win automatically here with his amazing vocal range on the song. And I thought this was a great song choice for him, as well. Apparently the judges, Randy Jackson, Kara Dioguardi, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell all enjoyed Adams" performance as much as I did. He was extremely believable and enjoyable to watch. I have a good feeling this kid is going to the very last episode!
The next one up to perform was, Allison Iraheta. She decided to sing, "Cry Baby" by the infamous Janis Joplin. I thought she did pretty well. I wasn"t crazy about her low tones, but she would have made Janis proud, nonetheless. I don"t know if this performance by Allison will keep her in the Top 3 tomorrow or not. I felt that she needed more melody to really get her approach on Rock week. But I"m glad she puts her best out there. I just don"t know if it"s good enough to remain safe in tomorrow"s elimination.
As I watched the next performance by both Kris Allen and Danny Gokey, I was pleasantly surprised to see them doing a duet. They performed "Renegade" by The Stixx. Wow! The harmony with the two of them singing was just amazing! The solo parts could have used a little more practice, I thought. But I felt that Danny Gokey really shined here. I didn"t feel Kris Allen was standing out in that performance because Danny Gokey"s powerful sexy and raspy voice just overpowered Kris Allen"s vocals. So I agree with Simon Cowell when he added, "OK, who was better? Danny, you were better than Kris, how"s that?"
