If you’ve seen Down Terrace, Kill List, and/or Sightseers, you know Ben Wheatley is an exciting filmmaker to watch, and I’m bummed that I missed his latest, A Field in England, when it played at the Toronto International Film Festival last year (Phil caught it, and you can read his review here). Thankfully, I won’t have too much longer to wait, and a new trailer and poster have been released to raise my anticipation. Simply described, the story takes place in 1648 where “Three soldiers are led by an alchemist into a mysterious field. They discover the horrors of war are nothing compared to those of the mind.” As you can see from the trailer, the picture definitely looks unhinged, and the blend of a period piece with psychedelic imagery reminds me a bit of Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Valhalla Rising. I have no problem with that.
