Hart of Dixie Season 3 Review “Ring of Fire”

Hart of Dixie has always been a light and frothy show, perfect for those moments when we want to switch our brains off and wallow in the romance and silliness of Bluebell but, since it came back to a new timeslot and a ticking clock, it’s been so light it’s in danger of floating away forever. That might sound like a twee turn of phrase but, with the ever-increasing likelihood of the show getting cancelled before the season is over, the last thing we want is for it to disappear from our television screens.

Which is why this episode, ‘Ring of Fire’, was more frustrating to watch than it really should have been. It was a shenanigans episode of Hart of Dixie, as Wade might call it, and, without the prospect of Joel moving to L.A. to oversee his book-movie project right at the end, it could have comfortably been skipped without much trouble. What happened? Well, Lemon resolved her boyfriend drama with a surreal jousting contest at Lavon’s painstakingly arranged renaissance fair, Wade stole a goat and Chicken fell of a ladder. When you put it like that, it’s hard not to worry about this show’s staying power.
