‘Chasing Life’ (ABC Family) Interview: Meet Star Italia Ricci and Find Out Why She Feels So Lucky To Play April

ABC Family is premiering their latest drama Chasing Life about April, a 24-year-old who discovers she has cancer at a time in her life when she is juggling work, friends, family and love, tonight, Tuesday, June 10th at 9/8c. While some actors might shy away from taking on the role of a cancer patient in an ongoing series, for star Italia Ricci, April was the kind of rich character she had always dreamed of playing.

In a recent conference call, Ricci revealed that when she was auditioning during pilot season, she sawChasing Life as the “golden ticket.” For Ricci, getting the role was life changing news that made her feel incredibly lucky and excited to get to delve into April. The actress’ passion for the role came through loud and clear during the call as she discussed the greatest difficulties about playing a character who is sick. Ricci is proud to take on a role that she feels can help and inspire others, but she had to take one important piece of advice from her Don Jon co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who played a cancer patient in 50/50) to heart: “don’t forget that you are not sick.”
