First off, if the man had been emulating Dexter, he wouldn't have done such a sloppy job luring the victim. Second, he wouldn't have killed an "innocent man." Remember, Dexter kills those who fit the "Harry Code", i.e. other killers/rapists/monsters. The only thing we can blame on the show is being available to anyone with cable (and/or the internet). The show did not inspire this killing, only gave this sick man a fictional character to idolize because Dexter is seen as a hero, despite being a serial killer. If this show gets pulled because of one man, I can guarantee a lot of fans will be "visiting" him in jail.

A killer is a killer, without or with Dexter on TV!

If he had really be emulating Dexter, he wouldn't have gotten caught.

Seems they're not telling the whole story yet. Wonder if the guy killed was a bad/evil guy? Maybe thats why they're blaming it on dexter? Even so i agree TV doesnt make you do things like that, anything can influence an already demented mind, look how many people have killed in the name of the bible.

It's BS to say Dexter is the reason this guy killed someone. He's clearly a psycho, and no element of the media makes people like that. i mean, what TV show was it that Jack the Ripper watched to make him do what he did? people kill because they have some social or psychological problem, not because they see it on TV and think it looks fun. This filmmaker is a killer. He's emulating the media because there was nothing else to hand. Dexter didnt make him kill, he was going to do it anyway. He needed a reason and a way to do it, if there was no Dexter, it would have been something else.

i wonder why they blame the show and not just the book? if the show had never been made, would there be a big deal over how the book inspired him? I have read worse things in crim books than anything that has ever been on dexter.

People used to blame the Devil or say the voices made them do it...now they blame TV, what I don't get is why the authorities make a point of helping the nut jobs pass the blame =/

Great, some idiot decides to try to kill someone by luring them off the internet and now it is because of a show that he watched. Come on, how many more times are people going to blame their demented acts on what they see on television. I can watch every episode of Dexter back to back for a month and it will not make me want to go vigilante and start dumping body parts in the ocean. Call it what it is just another nut being a nut and someone trying to make it not his fault somehow!!

Is anyone else a little worried that the police can use things like your facebook status against you?

'To much in common with Dexter Morgan'? Dexter would NEVER do that! I think the only thing it has in common with Dexter is 'killing', 'duct-tape' and disposed of body parts'... this filmmaker sounds like a would-be victim of the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Oh, crap. Now all the media will attack Showtime and the show and call it immoral. Because of one nutter.
