I was not expecting much of this movie. I love Will Smith, I think he's a wonderful actor, but I wasn't sure if he could pull it off this time. And, in fact, he does. Quite nicely. His portrayal of a booze-addled superhuman is spot on, and surprisingly offbeat given his usual happy-go-lucky humor roles. Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron also charm in their roles as dream-chasing husband and secret-keeping wife. My only beefs with the plot are the little matter of exactly "what" they are. Are they gods? Are they superhumans made by the gods? Or are they just mutant freaks? And what was with the whole pairing-up-means-death theme? Very anti-love. Of course, Hancock's brave act of leaving to save Mary in the end seemed to banish all those questions for me. All in all, it was a worthwhile film, and I would recommend a theater experience.
