Kendra's TV Hotspots of the Week: Glee, Burn Notice, Royal Pains & Summer Marathon Plans!

Welcome to a new week of TV!

Summer is here! And yes, this can still mean TV excitement - thank goodness for cable and reality TV? Hm. As summer TV kicks off, don't forget to check our list of premieres each week like this week's This Week's Summer Premieres Are On Fire, From Hell's Kitchen to Burn Notice, and keep track of all the upcoming summer premieres on our full Summer Premiere Schedule!

What I'm Excited For This Week on TV:

While I impatiently await the June 13th premiere of True Blood, there are plenty of premieres and episodes I'm excited to catch this week. Check out my favs that I highly recommend you dive into for the first week of summer TV as well! I will note here, though, I'm not big on most of the summer reality shows, so don't forget to check out the posts above for those I'm leaving out.

Glee - Tonight brings the second to last Glee of the season, so soak it up while you can, Gleeks! (Like we won't all be rewatching the eps all summer long!) This week is all about the glee club's "funk" after to seeing Vocal Adrenaline rock their Gaga-socks off. Yes, it's true... Kurt wears the same shirt twice in a week, and Mr. Schue decides it's time to turn their funk into some mad funkiness... like the music, not the cheese. So here's to seeing New Directions get down one second-to-last time this spring! Also, don't forget to check out our newest editor, Alex's, new Glee top 10: 10 Reasons SideReel Loves Glee's Puck, Even Though He's Such A Bad Boy!

Burn Notice - After an impressive 3rd season, Burn Notice is back for Season 4! While USA shows are generally light and Burn Notice can get a little too formulaic, I was impressed by last season's more intense character plot leaving us with a pretty sweet cliffhanger making me surprised to be so excited to sit down with the Season 4 premiere screener tonight! More preview to come before the Thursday premiere, just you wait, Burn Notice fanatics!

Royal Pains - This one falls on the lighter, very character-focused side of the USA dramas, but while it could have a stronger plot, there was something just so friendly and fun about this group of characters in its first season last summer that I was hooked like many a new Hank Med fan. I'm looking forward to kicking off a new season of Hamptons fun, light drama, and even a little plot development (gasp!) as this one gets underway this Thursday right after Burn Notice. I won't spoil anything, but having gotten a sneak peek at the premiere episode, I will tell you fans that the big Lawson daddy drama we were left hanging on last summer certainly heats up right away! Drop Dead Diva - Sure, I'm a sucker for the occasional Lifetime Television movie, but I was very pleasantly surprised by their quirky and cute new show last summer, Drop Dead Diva. It started out pretty light and silly, but as it progressed, it actually became a good show with characters I really cared about seeing develop. I'm excited to see what direction our diva will be going this summer and this girly dramedy will certainly tide me over until all of my usuals return in the fall!

What I'm Horrified by This Week on TV:

While I find a good amount of reality TV train wrecks I can't help but watch - note my continued draw back to The Hills - when it comes to shows like Toddlers and Tiaras, the TLC reality horror show premiering its 3rd season this week, well, I find it to be more tragic than addictive on the reality TV scale. I'm not going to judge anyone who finds this show fascinating, but I am going to judge those featured on this show. I can't watch MTV's 16 and Pregnant because I hate seeing teens and babies' lives getting ruined in too real and depressing of a way, so this one falls right in there with that train wreck I can't stand. I just can't understand beauty pageants for anyone younger than fully comprehending adults (if even), but to shove little kids who are just learning what this world is all about into a space where looks, makeup, fake-and-bake, and hairspray, aka altering yourself to please others is key... call me crazy, but I don't feel like that's the best of influences on them. As much as parents may defend with reasoning like gaining self confidence, by being shoved on a stage not looking like or really acting like themselves, I just can't handle it. But hey, I guess reality TV never claimed to be good for anyone.

What are you looking forward to or horrified by on TV this week?

Summer Marathon Madness!

While there's a lot of great summer TV, for those of us who don't live in places with real summer weather, there's still plenty of time to dedicate to more TV! Since I recently caught up on Rescue Me marathon-style, I'm going to return to a few awesome shows I temporarily dropped during this busy TV season: Dexter and Friday Night Lights!

I recently started up on Dexter again after watching the first two seasons last summer, and now I'm already digging into Season 4 after a quick run through Season 3! As those of you know who've watched this show, it's a killer addiction (I know, I know) and if you have a rainy, chilly, or otherwise free day or weekend this summer, I highly recommend powering through any or all of these seasons as it's nearly impossible to step away from the TV (or computer) after just one episode. I'll be spending some time getting to know the thrills and chills of the Trinity Killer, then I'll be impatiently awaiting the new season coming this September!

As for Friday Night Lights, I got very hooked on this one after SideReel's RachelL finally convinced me it wasn't really all about football, but then I dropped it for a while after not loving a particular Landry and Tyra plotline in Season 2. Now I've worked my way through the rest of Season 2 and am loving the 3rd season so far. So for any of you who may have given up on FNL along the way, this is a great marathon show definitely worthy of your SideReel summer must-watch list, and I promise it gets better again if you were like me and not loving the start of Season 2.

What are you planning to marathon this summer?
