(S05E04) "They were going to sell my gallbladder to the Japanese. Fortunately, my body is a toxic pit." - Celia to Nancy, trying to convince her to let her move in
I know some of you will disagree with me, but I thought 'Super Lucky Happy' was a really great episode. Maybe Jenji Kohan is listening to us, because it brought back the unique blend of fun and drama that I loved about the early seasons of Weeds. And oh, the quotes! Like this one, when Esteban meets Nancy and clan at the house, after they've been on the run:
Silas: "So you're the mayor of Mexico or something?"
Esteban: "Or something, yes."
Shane: "And you stuck your penis inside my mother at least once."
Nancy: "Ok, then. Good night, Shane. Go upstairs."
But hey, they got the test results back and Esteban is thrilled that it's a boy and it's HIS boy. Now he's all lovey-dovey again and wants Nancy and clan -- even Andy -- to move in with him. What's crazy is that Nancy is onboard with it, after Esteban threatened to kill her. Then again, what choice does she have?
I usually think of Celia as a useless character, but it was pretty funny when she showed up at Nancy's wanting to move in, then got booted out with all her stuff thrown out after her. Don't you think Celia would just head back to Agrestic and start a new life? I know there's not much there for her, but still ... it's gotta be better than hanging around kidnappers, Mexican thugs, and people who hate her.
Loved it when, after getting zapped with "Mr. Zappy" by Esteban's thug, Andy started working out in the garage in his let's-get-physical outfit. Or, as the thug said, he looked like "Jamie Lee Curtis in Perfect." There were some great Andy moments in this ep, including him getting dressed up in a cardigan and Mad Men-type glasses to go in for a bank loan. At first, I thought the girl must be Francine of "Not-Francine," but it was another first-love of Judah's -- Margaret, a.k.a. "Mags." What a whack job, wanting Andy to go out with her, only pretending to be Judah. He'll do it for access to Judah's account.
Normally, I'm not a fan of kids selling drugs, but Shane is so nonchalant about selling pot to his English teacher that it was pretty funny. But Shane's got issues, as evidenced when he said to Andy, "What can I say? I'm a Botwin. We're not responsible for anything we do." Lisa, I'm still onboard with the "Nancy is a horrible parent" campaign.
That was kind of sweet scene at the end with Nancy and Esteban walking along the beach and him throwing her Magic 8 Ball into the ocean. Then it cut to Andy finishing up putting the baby swing together at home. You could tell earlier that Nancy is a little torn, because she looked sheepish when Andy asked her to kiss him. There's definitely some sparks there, but things seem ok with Esteban right now, too. It'll be interesting to see who she ends up with, or maybe neither one.
Other points of interest:
* "Plastic demon from hell!" - Nancy to the baby swing she's trying to put together
* "Is it ok to impersonate your dead brother and pseudo-steal some money if you're gonna use the cash for the family's greater good?" Andy to Shane, the "moral center of this family"
* Nancy tying Esteban's thug and the federal-agent-who-lost-his-gay-lover to the bed, them getting into a foot fight, and her asking the Magic 8 Ball who should live or die.
I look forward to reading your thoughts about this episode.
