Gossip Girl 'Chuck in Real Life': If he only had a heart?

In this week's Gossip Girl, "Chuck in Real Life," it was time to show off the "happy" Bass-Van Der Woodsen family and though the episode was pretty Chuck-centric, it was more Van Der Woodsen and less Bass that ruined this classy social event.

So what was Chuck up to while Serena was ruining the family image? Trying to sleep with one girl to get another, of course. Yet somehow in all this, this episode was probably the most heart we've ever seen from Chuck Bass.

I thought we'd seen him as real as he was going to get when he was falling for Blair then fighting to get her back, but this week, Vanessa's Brooklyn project actually got to Chuck's heart as he saw more to himself than the rich jerk, and more to Vanessa than a bet with Blair that would get him well, Blair.

It was looking like it may actually turn into C+V, but instead ended in some steamy C+B, then C-B! I never thought I'd be proud of Chuck for hurting someone, but this time I actually think he told Blair she had to chase him now because he truly does have a heart and wants better for himself than to be used by the girl he loves - shocking!

So what does this mean of the Chuck Bass we know and love to hate? Will he only be more nasty because Blair can't and doesn't love him or is he going to be softer and more vulnerable than we saw him when he was first falling?

When I first saw Vanessa and Chuck together, I though "aargh!" but as the episode progressed, I actually really started to believe that Vanessa would finally understand where Chuck's coming from, which is something nobody else on the show's done. The father-issues he has are a big cause for him to act out that way. I always liked Blair and Chuck together, but now I think Vanessa might do Chuck a load of good.

Did anyone else not notice the complete rip off of Cruel Intentions. Which I believe was rip off of Dangerous Liasons and Valmont. Seriously, why does everyone lack orginality. Depressing.

Well, I think it was an homage. Doesn't Gossip Girl herself say something like, "We've heard this story before, and doesn't everyone end up dead?" I think this is the kind of thing they would throw in anyway just to feed in to what we think rich people do when they're bored. And I love Vanessa but they needed to give her some more interesting story line so this is where it might come in, who knows. Either way, I think we all love Chuck Bass :) And I love the idea of Nate living with the Humpfreys. Anyone think that might cause a spark between him and Jenny?

C&V is just wrong.. and I'd love to see Blair chases after Charles this time.. I hope chuck remains the same though.. I hated the vulnerable chuck.. Chuck's Devious Sexy, THAT'S his forte;)

Um, why are those the only two options? Who says Blair doesn't love Chuck? You don't have to say it to feel it. Blair looked pretty devastated to me, and the preview says that she tries to win him back.

Am I the only one who sees the exact same plot line as in Cruel Intentions? Guy tries to screw the girl to win the bet, develops a heart and ditches the evil schemer who started it all?

Well.Duh.Everyone knows that Cruel Intentions IS Dangerous Liaisons, and that Gossip Girl is very much like Cruel Intentions, in fact, the cast watched that movie to prepare for this show. Why do you think Chuck Bass is a fantastic copy of Sebastian Valmont? And Blair is pretty much Catherine.People who think they're *so* clever cause they drew this conclusion all by themselves: sorry, you're not the only who saw the connection. It's been established. I for one, really liked this episode. But Chuck didn't develop a heart because of Vanessa or something, and she's not the first to see the real Chuck. I think it was Dan, who spent the night in jail with him a few episodes ago. It may have even been earlier, with Serena, when he helped her out.But somehow, Vanessa does nothing for me. Maybe it's the actress who plays her, maybe it's just her floating in between stories, not really fitting in anywhere on the show, except if it's to aid in other characters stories. She's still not a real character for me. Maybe if they wrote in some grand gesture from Vanessa, make her do something awesome, it would help. But I wouldn't know what.

i like where they're at w/ C &V so far. as she said, he didn't hit on her at all. i think he was really feeling bad and if anything wanted her to be there for him as a FRIEND. not saying that won't or can't lead to later romance. but so far it's just nice to see the dynamic btwn them while it's still unromantic. and i LOVED Chuck at the end with Blair. perhaps he really does want better for himself. now we just have to wait and see if Blair is really gonna try and get him back, all the while seeing where is potential friendship w/ Vanessa goes.

just for the record - this episode is probably based on Les Liaisons Dangereuses, a 1782 french novel by choderlos de laclos. it was also the novel that cruel intentions, dangerous liaisons, and valmont were based on. the reason the episode is probably based on the novel rather than contemporary remakes is because in the novel, everyone except the marquise de merteuil (aka sarah michelle gellar's character) dies. haha anyway, my own opinion is that vanessa is a boring character cause she's always right and moral, so i hope chuck goes for blair.
