Surely the first in Buffy. He/She/It kept cropping up from the very beginning, untill the amazing final showdown in the final episode. It can impersonate any dead person (CREEPY!?) and has a whole horde of ugly soldiers to do its bidding, including the uber vampires! Plus its extremely deceptive and you often don't even know its behind everything! For villains, Buffy will always be my favourite. There were so many great ones! The master, Darla, Angelus, the mayor, Faith (on occasion), Adam, Williow (again, occasion)... its an endless list!

Ben is definitely my number one.
Ice Truck Killer from Dexter season one (maybe even Dexter himself, but we like him too much)
The Mayor from Buffy season three was one of the best villains of all time.
Joe McCoy in Friday Night Lights (yes I consider him a villain)
and lets say Aaron Eccles from VM just because I really miss that show.

after seeing the new episode of heroes this morning it has to be syler. the way he tricks parkman into doing that (no spoilers ;D) and also touches peoples brains for his hunger for power makes him the most evil kiniving sickest villains i have ever seen
then dollhouse - alpha is, thanks to mind imprints, super smart and a perfect killer. he knows exactly what he wants and exactly how to get it which is perfect for a villian
and finally violet in melrose place. i know she isnt really a villain but she steals, got a blackmail video of a married man she seduced, screws over other people to get to a guy and can easily get the blame placed on someone else
other then that i havnt really seen any tv villains

Oct 27, 2009 6:07PM EDT

Ok,Wrong, everyone.Maryann (True Blood) is without a doubt, by far the best villain of all of these shows.
Number 2: Ice Truck Killer from Dexter- Clearly he was incredible.
Number 3: Ben from Lost. Ben is a MASTER manipulator, so much he even manipulates the audience watching the show to like him at certain points, thinking he's doing the right thing, let alone the characters in the show itself. Of course he never is doing the right thing which is what makes him so good.
Number 4: Sylar- He comes last because he is too powerful, and although he is a great villain for Heroes he is having quite the identity crisis.

Benjamin Linus is one of the most complex villians ever. To this point you can still not say definitively that he is in fact a villian. It could turn out like he said all along that he's the good guy, you just dont know yet. He has so many layers and depth to his character, and the actor who plays him(Michael Emerson) is so good as Benjamin Linus, you have to give it to him. Sloan from Alias had those same type of qualities, but Benjamin Linus takes it to another level.
For the lighter side, give me Newman from Seinfeld, and Dwight from The Office.
And a special write in vote for Michael Rosenbam's Lex Luthor on Smallville

Hm, my favourite villain...
1. Sylar (Heroes)-he's a jerk, determined, creepy, he's EVERYTHING.2. Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)-he's the 'villain gone good' kind of villain3. Lex Luthor (Smallville)-he always kept things interesting4. Yellow Eye'd Demon (Supernatural)-for 2 or 3 seasons he just didn't freaking DIE5. Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars)-the prankster6. Benjamin Linus (Lost)-he's the type you Love to Hate7. Azula (Avatar: The Last Air Bender)-she's a big pain in the butt8. Rita (Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers)-can't go wrong with a classic

1) Eric Northman - True Blood: He's a bit of both, good and bad, mostly bad through :P And sexy as hell! He's the only one who torture, bite, shoot and starve Lafayette and we STILL love him anyway. Bad boys are always irresistible on TV ...
2) Maryanne - True Blood Season 1 + 2: She was so cunningly sweet to everyone and then made this big plan to sacrifice Sam while they were high on her voodoo. Plus she ate people's hearts. The way she could make Tara love her and then start killing her friends. She was a psycho.
3) Damon - Vampire Diaries: People might not have seen the show and think this one is weird, but he MANIPULATES and is so cunning. OMG the best villain i've seen for ages. He just wont go away not matter what happens.

The Trinity Killer (Dexter) - If you've ever watched 'Third Rock from the sun' his character comes as a bit of a shock in Dexter. Sadistic, ritualistic and cold-blooded, not caught after decades and has a family. Strange and disturbing.

The best villain of all time has to be ANGELUS from the Buffyverse (Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel). He was cunning, clever, and took his time to turn his victims crazy before he decided what to do with them. Angelus made killing an art; for him, it wasn't just the rush most vampires get when they kill someone, but he loved the thrill of the chase. And not to mention the fact that he had a way to hurt people with the truth. He never lies; but rather he finds the weakest spots in his victims and focuses on them. The best thing about Angelus as a villain is that the audience is never completely against him. No matter how much we might despise him at the moment, in the long run we would not want him killed because that would mean also destroying the beloved character of Angel.Angelus truly does have the face of angel- but it belongs to a monster.

Oct 27, 2009 9:51PM EDT

10) Mr. Opportunity - Honda commercials: because I say so.
9) Damon - Vampire Diaries: this dude is hell-bent on making his brother's existence miserable, no matter the body count, with every towns-person a pawn or meal, while sometimes both...
8) Davis Bloom - Smallville: the dude was a psycho-killer, even when he wasn't also DOOMSDAY...
7) Megatron - Transformers(all incarnations): do I REALLY have to explain this one...?
6) Angelus - BtVS/Angel: world renowned for being the best of the worst, the good guys fear him and other bad guys want to be him; he's also always a moment of happiness away...
5) Spike - BtVS/Angel: he may have started as a wussy mama's boy, and he may be one of the good guys now, but he still took down two slayers and is second in infamy only to Angelus, much to his chagrin...
4) Ruby - Supernatural: while others might easily put Yellow-Eyes, Alistair, Lillith, or Lucifer on their lists, my pick is Ruby because she successfully turned Sam and Dean against each other and made Sam all 'dark-side', while having everyone convinced she was sincerely a good-guy demon, including a frickin' ANGEL!
3) The Mayor - BtVS: his nefarious plan was to give the commencement speech to the graduating class, then commence eating said graduating class to ascend as a demon - all the while acting like an evil Ned Flanders...
2) Sylar - Heroes: a near unstoppable serial-killer who likes to get hands-on with his victim's brains(which isn't even necessary any longer); yet he's so awesome, ya can't help but root for him...
1) Maryanne - True Blood: This bish takes the top spot for being the only villain on my list that I personally wanted to got to town on with a rusty piece of re-bar...

Sorry, but Firefly has two or possibly four of the best/most realistic villains of all time.
First up: Jubal Early the bounty hunter. Such a crazy, existential view on his 'role' in life as a bounty hunter. Unpredictable and extremely skilled, only outsmarted in the end by a super genius/psychic prodigy.
Also, From the Feature Film 'Serenity' I really like 'The Operative' because he truly believes in what he is doing and knows that he is a villain. He honestly believes he's making a better world, on faith, that he knows he can't ever be part of."I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there... any more than there is for you. Malcolm... I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done. "
Also consider the two alliance agents/scientists 'two by two, hands of blue' from the show. They kill EVERYONE who has even met or come into contact with River. They don't even care if they talked to her or not. And the craziest part, they kill with a sonic device that makes your blood boil out of every opening in your body, and they wear special ear things.
I know I sound like a fanboy, but....... you can't stop the signal. (browncoats forever!)

Ben Linus, hands down. Someone hit the nail on the head earlier with what they thought about him. He is very complex with many layers, a master manipulator. In my opinion, that is the worst kind of villain. Sure, you can expect bad things from really evil people. That's easy. Ben ambushes both your preconceived and undetermined notions about him, the path the show is taking, and any alliances that may exist. He catches you off-guard in the most intelligent, nefarious ways. He's deceitful, mysterious, and can only be trusted, it seems, in those "life or death" situations in the most tenuous manner.
When you cannot determine whether someone has a core of evil or they are just secretive, "efficient", and misunderstood -- THAT is a good villain, in every sense of the word.

Firefly didn't really have enough time to develop an amazing bad guy, but...Hands of blueReaversboth pretty great, reavers got better in the movie, and also from the movieThe Operative. Great bad guy
She gets "Reformed" basically later but until then,Vala Maldaran from Stargate SG1Great bad Guy :)
And the last thing I can think of,The Weeping Angels from Doctor Who. Amazing bad guys. Don't blink.
Oh, and Syler sucks...He's really just annoying at this point...The choice to not kill him already is amazingly annoying. Now he's ultimately powerful, something which no other hero can be anymore, and he's separated from his body to boot. They're reaching and reaching for new ways to make him interesting again and it's not working...It will only end poorly...again...As soon as they made him un-killable he ceased to be fun anymore :(

2. Dexter (Dexter) - Just because he is the main character doesn't mean he's not a villain. His ability to understand situations, gather information, pretty much own anyone he wants to, and act on his whims with being able to mask it from everyone make him amazing. I don't know if you saw the "headbutt scene" with Doakes, but the situation surrounding it and the action itself was priceless.

Maryann was a really stupid villain that took waaaaaaaaaay too long to die. I mean seriously, we get it. You like to party and kill people. *fast foward AN ENTIRE DAMN SEASON* still partying and killing people. Not interesting.
I'm with you on Ben Linus. Most complex and well acted villain in years, but then...

Sylar - He freaking cracks open your skull and steals your ability and your life in the process [usually..fucking claire >:O ] ...He's just straight up the most badass villian there is...and i hope he comes back in full, ALTHOUGH the best Sylar was when he was weak and didn't have Claire's cheezeball regeneration power...Back when he was able to die...back when he was Desperate and human. Now he's... -almost- too godly.
2. Azazel [Yellow Eyed Demon] - The dude pretty much singlehandedly set the motions in action that freed Lucifer from hell. Seriously though man, Azazel is quite simply, a Master of Darkness and will always be one of my favorite Bad Guys.
3. Lucifer(from supernatural) - He's The Devil...No further explanation required.

Wow so many Buffy fans out there, and yeh lots of great villains but seriously imo best Buffy villain = creepy Caleb (Nathan Fillion) omg I wanted to kill him myself. Other than that I love T-Bag (Robert Knepper) from Prison Break, little girl Lilith (Sierra McCormick) from Supernatural, not really a fan of the show but The Master (John Simm) from Doctor Who, and just for s**ts and giggles got to throw in Cartman (voiced by Trey Parker) from South Park (god that kid is evil).
