A man named Sylvester Pemberton tracks down Chloe (Allison Mack) and tells her he knows about her team of superheroes and needs their help. However, before he can explain who he is, he is attacked and killed by Icicle (guest star Wesley Macinnes). Clark (Tom Welling) and Chloe's (Allison Mack) investigation leads Clark to the former headquarters of the Justice Society of America where he meets up with Nelson AKA Dr. Fate (guest star Brent Stait), Carter Hall AKA Hawkman (guest star Michael Shanks) and Courtney AKA Star Girl (guest star Britt Irvin). Courtney pleads with Hawkman and Dr. Fate to help her catch the killer that is targeting their group but they are reluctant to resume their duties as superheroes. Clark, John Jones (guest star Phil Morris), Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) and Chloe team up to help the JSA stop Icicle before he murders another member of the group. Meanwhile, Lois (Erica Durance) receives a package from a mysterious agency called Checkmate, run by Amanda Waller (guest star Pam Grier). Geoff Johns wrote the two-hour episode. Glen Winters directed the first hour and Tom Welling directed the second hour.

well, I have to agree. The acting wasn't that great. And not just stargirl.... I thought in general the JSA-members acting wasn't that good. Too cheesy. Too dramatic somehow....Well, all in all. It's not as bad as the guy playing Zod. He's horrible. He's so horrible he makes me laugh when he tries to be serious.... and what's up with the accent? Arent people from the same planet suppose to have the same accent... I mean Zod and his people are all from the same city, arent they?

This episode has brought me back into the Smallville fold. Finally instead of running around in hooded sweatshirts we see some bad ass costume clad heroes!!!! Have to admit just seeing Green Lantern made my night.

Hawkman should be the most unique in since the trailers, supermanhomepage.com, kryptonsite.com, and the CW are making it look like Clark will be filling in his role as leader. The interesting thing is that there probably will be some dynamic of interest and conflict between the two. If nothing else the costumes for the episode look bloody good.

I have loved the JSA since I read my first Justice League annual team up with the JSA in late 70s. I have always loved Doctor Fate and he continues to be one of my top 3 favorite heroes of all time. I am so psyched to see Nabu, the ankhs, the helmet, Inza and Kent in all his magical costume glory!

My first thought would lead to Hawkman. Smallville never disappoints in the slight variations of the characters in the DC Universes. I'm curious to see if this Hawkman is more like the JLA version that led to the division in a Justice League of America classic storyline (yes a comicbook geek) or are ALL the characters going to surprise, much like the three (founding) Legion visitors (Lighting Lad, Saturn Girl, and Cosmic Boy) last season. (Also picking up on a three theme here.)
