I miss the old Simpsons too, but it looks like they're dead forever. The problem is that around season 11 they stopped doing storylines centered around the character and switched to celebrity cameos and wacky antics. Some of these can be funny dont get me wrong, but on the whole they are nothing compared to season 1 - 10.
I used to look forward to the halloween specials, now they just suck like the rest of the episodes. The writers have even taken to screwing with Simpsons' continuity (I'm looking at you, 'That 90's show').
I think Matt Groening should sit down with the writers, some beer, some pizza and watch seasons 1-10 to see where they went wrong.

what are you on? simpsons are fine, the 21 years + movie proves it. they have over 400 episodes and virtually done almost everything and it's a miracle they come up with more.

"simpsons are fine, the 21 years + movie proves it"
You have a much greater faith in the average American viewer than I do, if you're going to use that litmus test as proof for that claim... However, the questions posed by the discussion at hand do not center around popularity or marketability. They center around content and quality. Joe the Plumber, Joe Six Pack, and Joe Blow, are all going to watch the Simpsons, regardless of content or quality.

old simpsons was better but still nothing is like the simpsons. I can't stand family guy...i guess that's the new attempt at replacing the simpsons...not my thing. I still love the simpsons...even if it isn't at funny as it used to be.
