Breaking Down Character Deaths on CSI.

Question: I have to agree with everyone who is unhappy with Gary Dourdan's character's demise on CSI. Why was it even necessary? If the man had personal issues that needed to be addressed, couldn't they just have written him out until that was taken care of? Send him off for training or something like that. God knows they did that with Grissom. Could it be that CSI (as well as a couple other series, notably Bones and NCIS) has enough episodes in the can for syndication purposes so the producers are cutting costs by eliminating troublesome or peripheral cast members?

As I recall most tv shows do that to actor/actress with problem DUI and etc . For example, Lost.

i would think that since his personal problem was with drugs, that it most likely affected his performance and attitude. that was probably most likely the reason for his getting killed off. i personally, don't think it was for punishment, and it isn't csi's or nbc's responsibility to get him the help he needed.

Such a shame though, he was a good actor, and he was good looking.

If there's one thing these series need when they're churning out so many episodes, it's consistency. They need actors who learn their lines and turn up on time, ready to go. In that way, it's like most people's work. If you're late too often, or don't do the work, then you get warned and then you get fired. The reasons behind your behaviour MIGHT be taken into account - like caring for a sick relative - but self-inflicted wounds by doing drugs or heavy drinking, don't usually qualify you for a pass. It's happened to bigger stars - think RD Jnr. The trouble with actors is they get comfy with the fame and think they're irreplacable. They're not hungry anymore. It becomes a lifestyle, not a job that they have to work at. But there is a streetful of hopefuls out there just gasping for their chance. I liked Warrick too. I liked the actor and I liked the character. But ultimately, he was replaceable.

Replaceable? How can you say that after all the dyanamics that have been built up of 9 seasons? Do you not remember that Nick and Warrick both became CSI level 2's on the same day? How can someone new come in and and take over a spot like that?
It would be a better idea if they had him shot at the end of season 8, but just be injured for maybe the first half of the season and let him back in...
