NBC's epic modern-day David vs. Goliath story given series order based on strength of two-hour pilot.
It's good to be the king--even if no one has even really seen you yet. NBC has ordered the project Kings to series based on partial footage screened to network executives, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The original plan for the show was to produce a two-hour pilot and determine whether to extend it to a full-blown series (like NBC did with the Knight Rider remake). But apparently the execs liked what they saw and decided to make a decision early.
"We've always loved this concept," NBC Entertainment cochairman Ben Silverman told the Reporter, "and after watching the production that's currently under way--as well as the incredible chemistry of the cast and the amazing world realized by Francis Lawrence and Michael Green--we want to continue telling the story with a series commitment."
