Boy Meets Reel: Better Off Ted's Sad Sendoff

The NBA Finals are about to trample over ABC's schedule for the last time this year, and all-but-forgotten in the hubbub over Game 7 of the Lakers-Celtics clash is [Better Off Ted]. The cancelled comedy was originally scheduled to air its last two episodes tonight, but basketball has sent Better Off Ted spinning off into the ether one last time.

It's not that I'm bitter about basketball - I'm going to be watching the game tonight along with millions upon millions of other sports fans. It's just sad to see that Better Off Ted can't get a proper burial in the middle of June. The show deserved a much better sendoff, and it's a shame that we don't even know when we can say goodbye to one of the best comedies no one watched.

We at SideReel have talked a lot about how much we wanted to save Better Off Ted, so I won't waste my breath beating a dead horse. I'll just remind you readers that the show was one of the smartest, sassiest, and most delightfully amoral comedy on television while it was on. Being unable to watch the last two episodes of this great comedy is a strangely appropriate ending to the show's doomed run.

So let's raise a toast to Better Off Ted tonight - we may not be able to see the ending any time soon, but it gave us a great run, full of wit and venom. I plan on watching the whole thing again soon, and I recommend that you guys all follow suit.

I'm not that easily entertained, but Better Off Ted had me laughing so much I dropped my headphones and almost fell off my chair. It's a shame it's canceled, it really is.

Its a shame to see this go, espicially sinse it was replacing another of my favourites (scrubs) also cancelled. only two and a half men remains for me, otherwise all others cancelled. bad luck at choosing i guess, if you want a good tv show that never got what it deserved its invasion ( truelly gripping but was eclipsed by lost ) i cant quite understand the appeal of some of the other shows which do well, other than because they use complete cliches which everyone is used to and wont have a hard time working their head around.

I'll miss you, Better Off Ted! That show's better than basket ball any day.

Well I hope I don't have to wait for the dvd but I guess it will be like Firefly, with episodes that never aired. If people, like me, are hurting over the end of "Better Off Ted" I would suggest "Andy Richter Controls the Universe". It's another Victor Fresco show so it has a very similar mood and great comedic timing, but was also tragically canceled.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Hope the actors find tv work again real soon.

Saaad. I really love this show - it's really a shame that most people (or at least those with a Nielsen box) don't get it and don't watch it. It's so witty, smart and yes, hilarious. I was really looking forward to the last two eps... but they had to deny us of that too. Boo. This show deserves a much better send off. It's so frustrating!

I am SO sad to see this show end. I hope someone has a last-minute Eureka moment and realise that this comedy goldmine is worth excavating. My partner and I waited every week for an episode, scheduled our meal around being able to sit on the sofa together. :( Surely there is a better way to ensure revenue stream than producing all those useless 'reality' shows that pepper the airwaves. I don't feel edified after watching any of those; they just make me cringe. :( I wouldn't care if I had to watch ten minutes of adverts before the good shows came on - if online, I'll happily participate in surveys, or other interactive tasks to prove I haven't just left the room to make a cup of tea! I just want to watch quality television!

LOVED it. People are just too dim-witted to understand how intelligently smart the humor, sarcasm, and intellectual jokes were. Obviously only you all who enjoyed it along with me.

Better Off Ted was so good, it is a shame people didnt watch it. The Racial Sensitivity episode was so much funnier and wittier than any other comedy. I guess we can go ahead and throw this one on the pile with Arrested Development as smart funny shows that were cancelled due to low viewership. Its sad that shows like Better Off Ted and AD couldnt hang around while Americn Idol is on its. I dont even know, 6th or 7th season of medicore "music" television; The Hills keeps getting renewed, Z-list celebrities dancing, 18 different weight loss shows, 47 modeling shows, 105 top chef cooking shows, The Middle, etc.. all are still on tv.
