How does Fairy Tail compare to One Piece?

Some people call Fairy Tail a straight-up ripoff of Eiichirou Oda's One Piece. Hiro Mashima himself vehemently denies this, saying that any similarities come from their shared experience as assistants to Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin).

What do you think? Are they similar but independent, or is Hiro stealing wholesale from his old co-worker?

I think you can see similarities but obviously it´s not "One Piece 2" :PIt´s not highly original but has his own personality and his a great manga that will become a great anime (nice 1st episode =D)I have to confess that at first it felt weird reading Fairy Tail manga (especially weeks after reading One Piece from beginning to last chapter and being thirsty for new stuff :P) but when you shake that feeling off you can see the work that it´s not amazing but very interesting (and it´s getting better :F) If you're a 1# fan of One Piece you cannot hate Fairy Tail xDIf you like anime/manga (especially shounen) it´s worth trying =)
