One of the things that comes to mind with just about every frame of Cobra is that this is pure space opera fluff wrapped up in an adventure. One comparison I saw in talking about the movie from the 80âs was that it seemed like it was heavily influenced by Barbarella, which is definitely easy to see how the connection could be made, especially if you donât watch a lot of anime. This 2008 revival OVA series is really doing a good job of keeping to the fluffy side of things with a future thatâs based on fantasy-science and the fact that clothes are a thing to be scorned, at least for women.
The first OVA got us back into the swing of things and introduced us to Utopia More, a woman on a mission that deals in the strange and seemingly mythical fossil snail that lives on Mars. After acquiring key information, sheâs gotten her bare ass back to Mars and Cobra has sidled up next to her and her crew to figure out whatâs going on. His reasons are twofold to be sure; one is that the Pirate Guild is involved and that means his nemesis in Crystal Bowie may be involved. The other is that Utopia is quite the futuristic hottie and Cobra does not let any woman heâs interested in pass him by if he can help it. These two things have come together well for him and heâs managed to worm his way into the operation at least a little as the whole thing is an Earth government gig, even if Utopia does tell him more than he really needs to know.
