The sixth episode of Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan continues to be an exercise in testing my patience as to whether or not I'll actually drop a show mid-stream. While I've done that with a couple of shows that were long since completed, I haven't done it with a new simulcast yet. The more I watch this show, and the more I see the kinds of reactions its getting from its fans, the more I realize that this is really a "training" show of sorts for people newer to anime than anything else. It's hard to see how someone who has been watching for a good length of time would get into this show with any degree of seriousness. I'm not exactly calling it a trainwreck, but it's just... not interesting.
The last episode had the paranormal hunting crew heading to a mountain retreat to have some fun and naturally they ended up on a mountain with a whole lot of yokai presence on it. The clan that resides there, the Gyuki clan, is an associate clan of Rikuo's family so there's a good sense of familiarity among them. What's happening here though is that someone with a funky animal style mask is aiming to make some trouble and is intent on causing some deaths in order to start a war between various clans. Should Rikuo die while on the mountain, it's pretty obvious that the Gyuki clan will be the one to get the lion's share of the blame. And that's the main focus of things here as this fairly mysterious person runs about making problems and eventually revealing himself and going all out, including a direct attack on Oikawa that nearly does her in.
