"Every patient's story starts the same way." Mere gets right into the VO this week as an ambulance pulls up where Richard and Derek are waiting. "It starts with them being fine. It starts in the before. They cling to this moment, this memory of being fine, this before, as if their talking about it may somehow bring it back." In this case, the before is Addison, who gets out of the back of the ambulance with Naomi, and then they unload her brother Archer on a stretcher. It's a little distracting that they have everyone greeting each other and talking at the same time that Mere is doing her thing. Addie hugs Richard while Naomi hugs Derek, and then Addison falls limply into a hug with her ex-husband. "But what they don't realize is that the fact that they're talking about it to us, their doctors, means there's no going back." Addison starts to cry and tells them that Archer was fine earlier that day as they all follow the gurney inside. "By the time they see us, they're already in the after."
