Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Season 1 - Episode 59 - Review: "Lost Light"

The tense moments of the show from the last episode are the opening moments here as Mustang is faced with the choice of letting Hawkeye die or perform a human transmutation. Luckily for him, seemingly throwaway characters from earlier in the series are working with him, and May, to provide what's needed in this instance to stave off events from going too badly in a direction that Mustang never wants to see happen, particularly since he knows what happened to the Elric boys when they attempted such things years ago. The relationship between Mustang and Hawkeye is one where you can see him going above and beyond his core beliefs, but there's so much to that relationship that you can't take anything for granted.

As challenging as the situation is where this group is at, it only gets worse when Bradley shows up and has his own challenges to add to Mustang and the others. There's an obvious long history there now and he's amused and disappointed that Mustang has changed and grown, but that means he's doing things that Bradley did not expect and that plays havoc with his own plans. Even more terrifying and game-changing is the arrival of Selim to the fight who turns the tables even more in favor of the homunculi and Father as they need Mustang just right since he's the missing fifth sacrifice.
