Smallville: Should Clark End Up With Lana or Lois?

Smallville has spent the past seven seasons developing the complicated relationship between Clark and Lana, which is an essential part of Superman's mythology. However, it's no secret that Clark eventually ends up with the feisty Lois Lane in the comic books. From the moment Lois was introduced in Smallville's fourth season, fans have wondered if the series would eventually pair her with Clark. With Kristin Kreuk leaving the series as it moves into what may be its final season, should the writers begin laying the foundation for the future romance between Clark and Lois?

Many Smallville fans would like to see season 8 focus on Clark's progression into Superman, especially if it's the final year of the show. The series has adhered to the "no flights, no tights" rule for years now, but this refusal to evolve Clark's character has resulted in some less than stellar story lines. Now that Tom Welling is in his thirties, I think it's safe to let him play a grown up for at least one season. While I don't expect Clark to be yanking on red and blue tights any time soon, it would be great to see him officially take on the role of a superhero.

Of course, being a superhero means having a very complicated love life, and this is where the great Lois (Erica Durance) versus Lana debate comes in. Though everyone knows that Lana doesn't end up with Clark, the writers have spent a lot of time developing their romance over the years. If the show wrapped up with the two of them separated and moving along two different paths, it's possible the "Clana" fans would feel cheated and upset. It wouldn't hurt to give those fans a happy ending, even if deep down they knew the romance wouldn't last.

On the other hand, Kristin Kreuk will only be appearing in a handful of episodes next season, which may make a happy ending for Clana fans impossible. With Lana out of the picture, it seems like the perfect time to start something subtle between Clark and Lois. I don't think they should date or hook up in any way, but I'd like to see an ending that makes it obvious they're destined for one another. If the show wants to leave us with a hint of the man Clark will be in the future, having him end up with Lana would be a bit of a cheat. We all know how the story goes, so why not move it along?

Now that Smallville is moving into its eighth and possibly final season, it's time to let Clark evolve. Let him take to the skies, let him embrace being a hero, and let him move on from Lana and begin thinking about a certain feisty reporter.

The way things are going, he will end up with Chloe. It will be a way for the writers and crew to say "f u!!" to the fans for complaining about Smallvile not bein superman. Its what they been doing to fans since day 1.
So frankly i give up and dont care how things go. he can get together with Martian Manhunter for all i care, as long as the entire thing ends with Clark floating at least 5 feet off the ground without being under the influence of red kryptonite or it being a dream/flashback.

Haha, dream on viewer, we do what be like so "screw you!!" BWHAHAHAHAHHAAAA!!!!

As far as I am concerned, Lana has always been the one for Clark. Besides, when Tom and Erika are on the screen, they just don´t convey anything special (emotionally speaking) - better Clark and Chloe for that matter. So I just hope the finale will be a great surprise to all of us.

Hello! One can already see things developing between Lois and Clark, gang. They started out hating each other, then it's moved to where they are very good friends. Such is as good relationships oftimes begin.

AHHHHHHHH, personally .. I would love to see Clark and Chloe together, that poor girl has dumped her heart out to him so many times and has been a wonderful friend to Clark for so long!! As far as Clark and Lana... NOOOOOOO.... their relationship [alot like the one i just ended] has been full of lies and hurt, Im sorry but no matter how much you love someone you cant live down that much pain, regret, and lies. Clark and Lois obviously are together in the end.. so i guess that will have to be okay. Lol.
But wait... I've missed a few seasons here, right now I am in the middle of season 5, where Jonathan dies. WHHHHHHAT... LEX LEAVES???!??!??? WTF. NOOOOOOOOO!!! :( Lana leaving is, uh.... normal... she's always saying goodbye... but LEX... what is SMALLVILLE aka SUPERMAN without his natural born enemy!? I am VERY disappointed to read this. *sobs* Its like, Cher without Sonny, ok bad example, tom without jerry.... GOSH...

urm, Lana...well, i love kristin n i love lana...but i think its time for the final goodbye!!! clana have been goin at it long enuf...mayb one last make-up thing, no strings attached to satisfy the clana fans!
Kara...all i can say is...EWWW!! Cousins...incestual much?
Lois...aah...there u go...clark's ultimate supporter..except as we saw with her relationship with oliver queen/Green's not gonna happen...cuz she said she cant be with someone like that...n Clark is someone like that...
I know, lyssarae83, it's horrible that lex is leaving...without the LL duo, im not sure Smallville's ratings will be too high...personally, i loved michael's performance every week!!!

Clark should most DEFINATELY end up with Lois...its not even a question. Lets just revise the Lana all she has ever done is hold clark back. He's spent years chasing after her and even when she found out about his powers did it really change anything? And Clark cannot end up with Lana coz of who is she now...that totally goes against everything he believes in. Since she finished with Lex, lana has been sculkin' about in the name of Clark doin' all these dodgy things and the whole time they've been on off...shes been possessed by his secret. She finally learnt it and still shes obsessed. Why would Clark need her help, she makes things worse.
And i'm so NOT happy with her appearance in The Bride....she totally stole Lois's thunder and Lois SHOULD kick her ass! Lois & Chloe are the best because they push clark to be the best he embrace his destiny...Smallville needs them, Lana just whines!
Ps. Sorry to cuss off lana, i used to like her but now shes just annoyin' and i think she just disrupts the plot rather than carrys it forward.

Clark should stay with Lana. The producer's spent 8 years building up their relationship and now the fans, Clark and Lana are supposed to end up with nothing?

Lois once told him that he would recognize his soulmate the first time she walked in the door. Did he recognize you, Lois? I think not. He's been in love with Lana since he was 5 years old.

Lois doesn't deserve him. She's a bitch who belittles him. Lois is also conceited. She feel for the suit/Superman first. She slept her way into her job, and she didn't even graduate from college. She dresses like a bimbo and she sleeps around.

Lana loves the man, not the job he does. Clana's relationship was build first on friendship, then love and they've been through so many obstacles and still they end up together, more deeply in love than before. If that isn't true love, then what is?

kristin kreuk is so much prettier than whoever plays lois. but thats my opinion.
staying on topic however, i don't particularly think lois and clark should be together. i know this is 'superman' we're talking about, but so far - i haven't seen all of season 8 yet, i see nothing special between lois and clark.
lois has made it very clear she doesn't want to be with a 'superhero.' e.g green arrow. no matter how much he tries i still believe clark loves lana more than anything or anyone, and like 'clarkloveslana' said, "Lois once told him that he would recognize his soulmate the first time she walked in the door." the only girl clark ever had that feeling for was lana. she also pointed out how much they've been through yet both of them still love each other no matter.
clark always shows affection and love to everyone of his friends. but he's only ever shown the kind of love somebody only has for that one person with lana. so even if he is "destined" to be with lois. i still think he'll always be in love with lana lang.
in any case i never thought clark and lois ended up together either. i thought it was the whole - your destiny is to save the world jig jig jag blah blah. then again i've never read the entire series of comics or the whole story of superman.i also found from previous superman series it was lois that always needed saving because she always did the stupidest things. at least lana does stupid things to make her and clark's life easier. even if it doesn't always work out. lois just gets abducted, trapped, or walks into mortal peril.

I only just discovered Smallville. I was only nine when it first aired. It's one of the few shows I could binge on and not get bored. Though I only made it to the beginning of season 4.

When I started the show, I didn't put two and two together. It didn't occur to me that this was Clark Kent. The Superman. So Lois Lane never even entered my mind. I fell in love with Clark and Lana. Max and Liz from Roswell would always be my favorite TV couple, but these two threatened their place in my heart. I wanted these two together more than anything. Then I heard Chloe mention Lois Lane. I paused my computer screen. That named sounded familiar. Like Superman familiar. So I googled Lois Lane. I was right. She's superman's girl. This terrible feeling appeared in my stomach. If he's Clark Kent and Lois Lane exists, how can he end up with Lana Lang? These thoughts plagued my mind. I tried to continue, to no avail. This gut wrenching feeling deepened in my stomach. Before I could go any further, I needed to know. Will Clark end up with Lana? Or will this mysterious Lois Lane make an appearance and still his heart?

I avoided temptation. I didn't Google it. Then she showed up and Clark didn't seem the least bit interested in her. He was still smitten with Lana. I was Happy.

I was in denial. I wanted to believe it. But doubts plagued me. The sick feeling in my stomach remained. Lois didn't seem to be going away. She kept reappearing. I needed to know for sure. So I did it. I googled the question "Will Clark Kent end up with Lana Lang? Everyone knew the answer to that question. Everyone but me. That sick feeling remained in my stomach for days. But after binging on CW's Beauty and the Beast and watching Catherine and Vincent together my heart is almost healed.

But the feeling still remains. Even now I can't seem to continue Smallville. I felt cheated, heart broken, and upset. I don't understand why they spent so much time building this relationship, if there was no happy ending in sight. I can watch all the heart break, pain, and betrayal, as long as I know eventually the characters will be together, because they love each other, and it's meant to be. I don't understand why they would do such a thing if he was destined to end up with Lois. I feel really badly for all the Lana and Clark fans who followed the show for years, only to realize there wasn't going to be a Lana and Clark in the end. I'm glad I was only nine when this show came out, and was too young to experience this heart break and betrayal.

Though if there are any Lana and Clark fans out there still reading this, I do have a couple of questions? Did Lana at least get a happy ending? Do you wish you could unwatch what you saw. As a Lana and Clark fan, do you recommend me continuing with the series, or will I only reopen the wound before it's healed, only to be disappointed. Do you recommend I not continue?
