Matt Groening has confirmed that a sequel to The Simpsons Movie is on the horizon.

Groening noted that a second feature could take several years to emerge as the show's production team aren't keen to put in the extra hours.

"It will happen at some point, but I have no idea when," he said. "The first one took us four years - mainly because we don't like to work any harder than we usually do."

They are so lazy. No need for "several" years to get the next movie out. But if thats the case then that means the simpsons is almost guaranteed to be still going until season 25 :)

Yeah, that's true Maggie does say sequel at the end of the first movie... although she says it in a question-esque fashion, and it's not her first word, reminiscing to the episode where Homer tells the story of Lisa's first word and right at the end Maggie says "Daddy", but that's off the point. Can't wait for another Simpsons Movie! I hope it's got nothing to do with government or politics this time, although they got some good cracks from that region out of the first movie. And I hope there's a sequelling game as well, hopefully with a more accurate map portrayal of Springfield this time.
