This week, Damages took on a more solid, focused feel. It was refreshing to get a bit of a break from the time-shift future visions of the deceased Tom Shayes (Tate Donovan), but because of that, "Flight's at 11:08" did lose an element of overall intrigue. It was a surprisingly creepy episode however, with the character of Joe Tobin - who once seemed so unassuming - making some really harsh moves to cover his ass after having accidentally running over his father's mistress with his car. The revelation about Joe's drinking was a bit unexpected last week, but it played a lot better here considering the amount of pathetic misery he'd managed to heap upon himself.
I'm glad that Danielle wound up getting saved on the way to the airport. I'm all for dark and nasty character turns, but I think it actually worked better to have Joe's plan to fly the concussed girl out of the country get thwarted. The point that was being made was that, as big a game that Joe talked about being honest and true, he all but decided to murder that poor girl by denying her the medical attention that she needed. All forâ¦his family? Well, we don't know at this point. We know that his family might be what he started out fighting for, but once we found out that he was also having an affair with Danielle we could pretty much throw his whole "family man" act out of the window. Now we'll never really know if he's just covering up his own actual indiscretions or if he is, in fact, trying to provide for his wife and kid.
