In the on-going search to find a replacement for Paula Abdul, American Idol is bringing out the big guns, er voices, as guest judges. We've already talked about Victoria Beckham, Katy Perry, and Mary J. Blige acting as Paula place-holders in auditions, but we now have a few more names to add to that list. Most importantly, season 1 American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. According to a segment on this morning's Pop Tarts (on Fox) Clarkson will be joined by an unnamed Jonas Brother (later revealed to be Joe Jonas) as a guest judge during next week's audition.
While we're super excited to see Kelly back on the show that made her a super star, it's an interesting move for the songstress. Since winning the original Idol, Kelly has kept her distance from the show, trying to establish her identity outside of the FOX reality behemoth. However, someone close to Kelly says that she is "beyond excited" to go back and contribute to the show where it all started.
With the announcement of Kelly Clarkson and anonymous Joe Jonas, our list of potential celebrity guest judges climb to eight. We've got Posh Spice, I Kissed a Girl, No More Drama Mary, the Other Famous Twain, and Jenny on the Block. That's right, while we haven't mentioned it yet, apparently Fly Girl cum movie star cum booty sensation cum almost Mrs. Affleck turned full-on super star Jennifer Lopez will also be sitting that famous derriere in the judges chair.
With this rotating cast of famous characters, it looks like American Idol won't be seeking just one replacement for Paula this season, but rather a number of temporary guest judges. Since it seems like Idol can have it's pick of celebrities, who would be your ideal celebrity guest judge? I'd love to see Willie Nelson as a guest judge -- his mellow approach would be a nice contrast to Simon Cowell's acerbic for the camera attitude. Other dream American Idol guest judges? We say, continue to bring the divas! You've got Miss Mary and J-Lo, so how about Barbara Streisand or Mariah Carey? Just add Adam Lambert to that mix and you've got a diva showdown!
