I'm consistently thrilled and overjoyed by Batman: The Brave and the Bold's choice of guest stars. That being said, and as much as I've enjoyed watching characters like Blue Beetle, Booster Gold and Jack Kirby's wonderful DC creations all brought to life on the small screen, no set of characters seems more tailor-made for this show's treatment than the Metal Men, DC's team of super-powered robots with the characteristics and abilities of their respective metal alloys. Like the Green Lantern Corps, their powers translate beautifully to animation. And like so many of the characters that have appeared on this show, their colorful personalities are perfect for the series' brand of goofy comedy.
But before "Clash of the Metal Men" kicks off its exploration of Dr. Magnus' super robots, the episode delivers another teaser for the upcoming Starro the Conqueror storyline, this time starring Aquaman. This is the show's latest effort at longer form storytelling, and although past attempts haven't always been successful, this one promises to deliver a wilder ride than the underwhelming Equinox arc. Aquaman's reaction to Starro's herald, The Faceless Hunter, is alone worth tuning in for, as the hero remarks how ironic it is "that the very face of evil has none!"
