Exec-Producer Kelly Souders Wants a 'Smallville' Season 10, Do You? - Featured

Smallville is certainly on its way to becoming the longest-running show on The CW's current line-up, and it's not stopping there. As though the series itself had superpowers, it's refusing to end and is getting ready for yet another season. When executive producer Kelly Souders was interviewed by EW's Michael Ausiello, she spilled the beans.

Despite a slight drop in ratings due to the show's move to Friday nights, Smallville is slowly proving it's as strong as its protagonist. "We are really, really pushing for season 10," Souders told the publication. "We really hope it happens."

The shift in schedule didn't hamper Souders' hopes in preparing for another installment of Smallville though. She says the fate of a season 10 will be in the hands of die-hard fans.

"[I]f people keep tuning in and telling their friends about it, I think [a 10th season] is quite likely," she said.

However, the second half of this season is far from over. The writers of Smallville have only just begun mapping out the end, but none of them are sure if it's going to be a finish to the season or the series itself.

"It's something that we faced last year, too," Souders revealed. "To try and break two different endings for a season kind of puts you at cross-purposes a little bit. For one, you'll rev things up, and for another, you're trying to bring everything to the finish line. But we're really planning on breaking a season finale and not a series finale."

Ideally, however, the end of Smallville would be seeing Clark (Tom Welling) in his iconic garb and finally taking on his destiny. But the series, as Souders says, is really about his path to becoming the hero we all know. With that, how can the show possibly wrap up?

Kelly Souders admits she "can't make any promises." But if ever they're thinking of putting the actual finished product of Superman on the small screen, "it would be at the very end." When that will be, however, no one knows yet. Maybe on a season 11?

i love the characters and the whole super hero thing but this show has gotten boring. i eagerly watch every episode to see if something happens that sparks more than the the normal response of "i guess ill wait for the next show". i would love to see a season 10 if they kick this super hero thing up a notch. the show heros is gone, no ordinary family blows the big one so there is a nitch for a superhero show. the folks at cw can take advantage of this or keep on the the same old lame old

Yes! Season 9 has finally gone where I have been wanting this series to go. It would be a shame for it to not get a season 10 just when the show is finally getting back on it's feet again, Season 10 all the way.

Yeah definately it's as common in england as it is in the states, i'm so eager to for season 10, but then again i could wait as each episode brings it closer to the complete finale. This season i felt that smallville brought back up it's rating but it depends if some of it previous season watchers gave this season a second chance. But for my vote season 10 HAS TO GO AHEAD as the plots only getting better as well as interesting, let jus hope for season 11 and 12 fingers crossed

yes to a season ten and a justice league spin off

Season 10 sounds just about right. Although, I am not, at all, totally opposed to the idea of a season 11. Just like most people here are saying, just do the following:1) Bring back Lex Luthor!!!2) At the series finale, I want to see Superman in his costume, flying.3) I want an ultra, mega, ultimate, Baddie in the end, so, let's just bring in Darkseid already.

I want it to go on as long as Tom and Erica want to portray the iconic characters, be it 1, 2, or more seasons. But I do want a proper and prepared ending. I just wish they could sign the show for a couple more seasons and then accept that as all there will be. Then they can fully prepare for and set their complete focus on one ending. I'll never want to say goodbye, but I do want to be ready to say it.

BRING ON SEASON 10 and with it:- the resurrection of Lex- Clark being able to fly- More justice characters- Clark and his cape (doesnt need the whole tights thing, but the cape and the colours would do nicely)- and more Clois action! Let her in on the secret. And only a season 10, season 11 would just be too much. They should think of a proper ending for season 10However, if they can do all that by the end of season 9 and make it memorable, I'd be happy with that too.=)

smallville is the truth and i say it should go on forever

season 10 would be good news to me
| Nov 7, 2009 11:06PM EST
Season tell yes it would be awesome, but seriously why even mention season 11 already. End it with respect for the show, it's obvious that 10 would be the perfect length everything would be in place so it would just be stupid to drag t out even further. Bring back lex next season and end it there. (plus make him fly now, obviously)

It is a great show that has a lot of potential, and of course I want more seasons. They do need to have clark fly though. Seriously and how do they expect Lois to not know that superman is clark. You cant just put glasses on him and suddenly not know who he is, so she needs to find out pretty soon.Ya I'm all for more seasons though.

yes, definately having season 10 would be great. I agree with some of the things that was posted in a comment from AK10. If season 10 will be the last season of smallville then 1.) Clark has to start flying. 2.) Lois has to learn who clark really is. Also, it would be great to have a 10th season because i want to know what Lois saw when she went to the future. I want to know if all those things actually happen.

No. NononononononononononononoononoononononononononononononononononononononononnoononoOHGODNO. This show has already eaten my soul. Why won't it die? Why? The badness of season 4 on literaly keeps me up at night. I spend hours, nay, days thinking of all the ways it could have not sucked. I try to pull free, but it keeps dragging me back with false promises as it continues it's policy of doing the worst possible thing, or the best thing in the worst possible way. I will be a 90 year old telling all of my thorougly bored great grand children about what happened to my beloved show. Please. Let it die. You passed the point of dignity but...at this point it's just cruel.

Yes to Season 10 of Smallville, and another yes for Season 11 and possibly a Season 12! Would love to see Clark's transition to Superman the right way.

I would so love to watch as the show progresses into the Justice League and I really hope that where it's going... the Wonder Twins are making their log awaited debut next weeks episode!!! Woo Hoo! I know all the fans are wondering where Green Arrows new side kick is gonna play her role... We (Icanspeak4allfans) really like Justin Hartley as the Green Arrow, charm and good looks... Clark can be terribly serious, we love the Arrow isn't! Keep the story rolling, just a little faster please. Love the Show!!!!

with rating lowing everytime more and more i dont think theres chances of a season 10
| Nov 7, 2009 11:57AM EST
hi, I think Clark has faced alot of challenges but in the last season of smallville he should face his toughest challenge and that would be Zod reviving(digging out ) Doomsday
| Nov 7, 2009 11:52AM EST
10 would be perfect, everything well known comes in ten's... My vote is a worth FOE that will give Clark a run for his money and let loose. Darkseid would be perfect to finish up the series and make Clark his perfect Superman status. Oh and take him and Lois out the basement for Gods sakes. How long is the Daily Planet that small????
| Nov 7, 2009 11:07AM EST
Season 10 is a round number so finish the show already im freaking waiting for this to be done already!!!I was around 6 years old when this startedtime to finish
| Nov 7, 2009 10:47AM EST
Of course we want a season 10! I absolutely love Smallville, it is my favorite show of all time, and it could go on forever, and I would be okay with that :) That being said, it has nothing to do with how hot Tom Welling is (actually, that helps alot). Go Smallville, please never leave LOL

Look they've taken way to long to get Clark to Superman mode and I'm sure this was done intentionally so that they can keep viewers hooked in waiting for that moment when he flies in his blue tights and red cape. The thing is they made so many lame, unnecessary storylines in between that the wait is becoming almost painful. I do ultimately want to see Superman, but my patience is just about gone. If I know for a fact that it'll happen in season 10 then I'd sty tuned, but if it's just going to go on and on beyond that I might as well give up now.
| Nov 5, 2009 7:20PM EST
I agree...there HAS to be a season 10...and Lex HAS to come back!! the producers did agree when they started the show that there would be "no flights, no tights" so it would be different than any other superman show. I think they are trying to drag it out as long as they can....and I agree I would love to see some flying action!! :-D SMALLVILLE IS THE BEST!
| Nov 4, 2009 5:52PM EST
i will only endorse a season ten if tights, a cape , and glasses are involved, ive spent the past two seasons waiting for this to happen, and im running out of patience

AGREEEEED! IMPULSE NEEDS TO BECOME THE FLASH AND CLARK NEEDS TO HAVE THE SAME OUTFIT ONLY RED COAT- BLUE SHIRT AND PANTS AND THE "S" ONLY SLIGHTLY MUTED

Yes, season 9 has made enough forward progress for me to really really want a season 10. That being said, I don't want a random mediocre season 10. They need to end it the right way, season 10 has to have three things; #1 Michael Rosenbaum has to be brought back as Lex Luthor, you can not do a show about Superman without Lex Luthor, they have managed to do alright without him, but as Clark becomes Superman you have to have Lex Luthor firmly in place. #2 Clark needs to learn to fly and become Superman already, you can not just end the season with the last frame of him becoming Superman as I assume they are going to do, they need to show him as Superman, which is the payoff of the 9+ seasons. #3 Lois needs to find out who Clark is. Smallville has opened the door of a Clark/Lois relationship, so they do not need to drag it out over two seasons, if they continue she has to find out who he is. If they do all three of those things I think Season 10 would be the best season of Smallville.
