Alison Sweeney is always a little awkward on these live finales; as if she just can't get used to hosting an event in front of an audience. Again this season, she was stumbling over her words at times, and missing lines from time to time. On the flip side, she showed genuine enthusiasm for the successes of the contestants, even going so far as to publicly declare one of them her favorite ... while a different contestant was standing right next to them.
There was a lot to get through tonight. We had to find out if Koli or Daris got America's vote and the chance to compete alongside Ashley and Michael for the $250,000 prize. The remaining contestants faced off for the $100,000 "At Home" prize, but before all of that, we got our promised follow-up with last season's Shay Sorrells to see how much cash she'd earned from Subway.
At 476 pounds, she was the heaviest contestant of all time, until Michael this season. In the last finale, she weighed in at 304 pounds, and Subway promised her $1,000 for every pound she could lose between then and now. She didn't do quite as impressively as I believed she would, but did drop 52 pounds.
Subway's Jared brought her out a giant check, but made things more interesting by challenging her again. If she can train for and compete with Jared in a marathon within the next year, they'll double her winnings. 'The Biggest Loser' is determined to see Shay get into great shape, apparently. It would help the credibility of the show if she can lose the weight and keep it off, as we've seen so many past contestants struggle to do.
