Hoarders - making entertainment out of the mentally ill.

Anyone watching Hoarders must ask themselves the question - is it really fair to make entertainment out of people who are clearly mentally ill?

Almost all these people are obsessive compulsives in some way - and the lady with the cats - that went way beyond OCD.

I'm uncomfortable. Are you?

Well I am a psychotherapist and I do find the show helpful (not entertaining) to see people with this challenge in their own environment. I think it serves a good purpose for the community to see that there is help for this condition and I hope it will build compassion. Hopefully the people featured gain self-esteem for having the bravery to come forward, publicly, with what many consider an "embarrassing problem." I don't find the tone of the show to be exploitative or manipulative. Yes it is "uncomfortable" to actually see people's "dark sides" but at the same time it is very inspiring. It all depends on how you view it.
