If you find yourself fascinated with shows like America's Next Top Model or Make Me a Supermodel, the upcoming CW series The Beautiful Life might be up your alley. The show, helmed by Swingtown's Mike Kelly, will revolve around a group of male and female models sharing a New York residence. Mischa Barton, best known for her role as Marissa Cooper on The O.C., was the first to be cast on the series, after she said no to another upcoming CW series, the Melrose Place reboot. She'll play Sonja Stone, a veteran supermodel who's trying to stay on top of the high fashion circuit.
Joining the cast of The Beautiful Life are Corbin Bleu from the High School Musical franchise as Isaac, Sara Paxton as Raina, Ben Hollingsworth as Chris, Ashley Madekwe as Marissa, and Jordan Woolley as Egan.
In one preview, the audience is taken to the backstage of a big fashion show, complete with potential wardrobe malfunctions, catty remarks, and models late for engagements. Designer Zac Posen appears as himself, with both Raina (Paxton) and Marissa (Madekwe) among the models.
"What a star," Posen remarks as Paxton takes the runway; cut to Barton, who's stuck in a cab somewhere and is late for the show. We also find out that her character is due to make her first runway appearance since "disappearing" off the scene more than six months ago.
Later, when Sonja arrives, she complains that the dress she is supposed to wear "needs work" because it wasn't tailored for her. Faced with the dilemma of eliminating the dress or the model, Posen chooses Raina to wear the dress on the show, ignoring Marissa, who was the first to volunteer.
"You've got to be kidding me," a disgusted Sonja says, before walking out, while Raina is told that, "It's sink or swim. This is your moment."
