I usually leave major spoilers out of advance reviews, but Caprica is a different animal. Yes, the pilot episode is making its TV debut this Friday on Syfy, but it's been available for months now - first on DVD, then for free online. So here's your official Spoiler Warning: I am going to discuss all of the pilot episode, including the conclusion. But if you haven't seen Caprica yet, guess what? You can ignore the text surrounding it and just watch the entire pilot right now, a few paragraphs below!
Caprica of course is the prequel to Battlestar Galactica, taking place 58 years before on the planet of the title. The pilot shows how the loss of a man's daughter becomes a key moment in the creation of the Cylons, as Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) finds himself in a very unique position in the wake of a train explosion that kills his daughter, Zoe (Alessandra Torresani). Daniel you see is brilliant scientist who has been inventing cutting edge robots. When he learns his late daughter was equally brilliant and had created an AI computer program of herself, he decides to attempt to put this version of Zoe into an artificial body, to bring his daughter back.
