30 Rock Episode Season 4, Episode 15 Recap: "Don Geiss, America, and Hope"

I'm not quite sure where Tina Fey came from, but oh my god, she is brilliant. I can officially say that almost no episode of 30 Rock falls flat for me, and this one certainly didn't. I frequently find myself in tears, uncontrollable laughing fits, and the often spit-take or two. Her writing is sent from the gods, and the acting within this episode in particular deserves multiple Oscars (yes, not even Emmys are enough). Now that many of you think I'm a crazy, obsessed, neurotic fan, we can go on with the recap.

This week, many character traits of Liz Lemon are revealed that we have not seen much of in the past few seasons. For the first time in awhile, Liz thinks realistically. After Wesley, her "future husband," continues to bump into her in random places, she realizes how much she truly dislikes him. At first, after meeting each other by coincidence in a movie screening, the two decide to give their relationship a second shot. They go into the dentist's office again, in hopes of going back under the laughing gas and seeing what attracted them to each other in the first place. It doesn't exactly happen, and Wesley begins to explain to Liz that the two were brought together in order to be "settling partners." Even though the offer is not entirely crazy, Liz uses common sense and dumps the man once and for all. She realizes that settling is not always the correct answer, and is still trying to hold out for love, and to find the man of her dreams. For the first time, I screamed, "You tell him, Liz!" at the screen. Usually, I completely disagree with the choices of our protagonist, but tonight, I'm proud of her. She has grown-up, and is showing a completely different side.
