As Bravo's Real Housewives of New York City awaits pickup for its third season, one of its stars Countess LuAnn de Lesseps may not exactly be a housewife when the reality series returns. De Lesseps, 43, tells People that her husband of 16 years, Count Alexandre de Lesseps, have broken up with her last month, and he did it via email.
It said that he had met someone, she sums up, and they were serious.
I was devastated, she adds. I knew that we were kind of separating, but I was hoping that things were going to work out.
The 59-year-old royalty is reportedly involved with an Ethiopian woman in Geneva. Prior to the shocking development, he and The Real Housewives of New York City star have been separated fro nearly three months. LuAnn tells People that she always hoped that she'd be married forever, and that if it didn't happen, the news would be kept private, primarily for the couple's two kids, Noel, 12, and Victoria, 14. Breaking the news to their children, she says, is the hardest part in the whole incident.
In addition, Luann says the breakup is making it hard for her to promote her new autobiographical etiquette guide book Class with the Countess that hits bookstores Thursday. She has dedicated the book to her husband and even includes a chapter devoted to How to Get a Man to Stay in Love.
When I wrote the book I felt very secure, she says. And that's totally changed.
The star's rep previously said in a statement that the countess and the count plan to remain friends.
The Real Housewives of New York City also stars Alex McCord, Bethenny Frankel, Jill Zarin, and Ramona Singer. The show follows the ladies as they try to juggle their respective careers, social lives, and motherhood against the backdrop of the big apple.
