Make It or Break It: Did the Show Hit the Mark For You? - Featured

ABC Family debuted a new summer series last night - the gymnastics themed Make It or Break It.

The network launched smash-hit The Secret Life of The American Teenager around this time last summer; will they be able to repeat the success?

I have to say, albeit predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed the pilot episode. First off, there has been a sore lack of any programs about gymnastics on ever. For reasons I cannot quite put into words, I feel like many young girls - the target audience of ABC Family - are captivated by the sport of gymnastics. Who else finds that this is among their favorite portion of the Olympics?

So...the second I heard that ABC Family was developing a show about gymnastics, I was already going to give it a look no matter what.

And...while I am still curious to see if the show has enough meat for a sustaining life, I was pleased by where and how it started. It's really fun to get a glimpse into a world that we all (or at least some of us...) secretly wished we could have been a part of. There are likable characters - underdogs to root for - and villains to root against (who we still can sympathize with).

While not groundbreaking beyond the sense that there hasn't been a show about gymnastics previously - I found Make It or Break It to be delightful summer fare. I am certainly willing to keep watching and seeing how it develops.

Did the show hit the mark for you?

It was like Mean Girls in leotards...I'll have to watch a couple more before I make a proper decision about whether or not I like it.It has potential but it could also suck. Also, nice to see Susan Ward again! Ems x

I was happy with the pilot - I wanted to like it, but expected it to be a little too light. For summer and ABC Family, I think it's just right! It seems like they already have a lot of ideas about what to do with the behind the competition drama from crazy parents, to family and boy trouble. I don't think it's the most unique show in the world, but as far as the gymnastics portion, it is unique and I think could be really popular for the ABC Family audience. I'm definitely looking forward to see where they take it next!

As a former gymnast myself, I was sorely disappointed by the level of gymnastics in the show. That aside, I found the plot rather cheesy and the "mean girls" competitiveness rather stereotypical. This show is lacking originality as well as realism. I probably won't be watching again.

Its great to see a show thats based around gymnastics, i cant remember a series that did that. I havent been keeping a very close eye on the show, but the few episodes that i have watched are very good, they have a strong reality vibe to them, like, this stuff has actually happened to people in the real world. For instance, girl gets boy, girls friend likes boy, boy falls for friends bait, girl has no clue that her friend, and boyfriend have been lying to her. It has a great story line, and i love the actress, and actors in this tv series. They really stick to the raw reality of things in a teenagers life.
