There was the divorce, the hiatus and the introduction of Jon Gosselin's new breed of ladies, but none of them seemed able to put Jon & Kate plus 8 back to the top. The show, which returned last Monday, didn't accomplish the same phenomenal ratings as before.
After a month without new episodes, Jon and Kate Plus 8 was aired once again, with a back-to-back special focusing on the aftermath of the Gosselin parents' separation. According to Us Weekly, the TLC series brought in less than half the audiences of previous installments.
The first half hour of Jon and Kate Plus 8's post-hiatus featured Kate Gosselin vacationing with the kids. Jon, meanwhile, was busy supervising the renovation of their kitchen. The distance was apparent between the two, as well as the drop in ratings. It drew in 3.9 million viewers, much to the surprise of many.
The next episode had Kate camping with the kids without Jon, which was able to produce 4.1 million audiences. Back in May, Jon and Kate Plus 8's premiere brought 9.8 million viewers, so the drop in ratings is a bit too much to take for the network.
The question now is, is anyone really shocked at how things are going for this show? The plummeting of popularity of Jon and Kate Plus 8 can certainly be attributed to several reasons. None of them, however, can possibly involve the kids.
Now, should we dare ask Hailey Glassman, Kate Major or even Michael Lohan about this little ratings wreck? While it sounds as though these are all Jon-related, the reality TV star hopes the blame on him would finally dissipate.
On his interview with In Touch magazine, Jon Gosselin said: "Many people think that everything moved too fast, that I was out partying too quickly. But Kate gave up on the marriage last October, and the divorce will be finalized by September 30."
He goes on to admit, "Things have gotten out of control." And we all know how things are bound to get worse from here.
Here's a clip of the new Jon and Kate Plus 8 so you can see for yourself. There's hardly any Jon in there, leaving us all to speculate.
