Less than three years after winning the sophomore season of Hell's Kitchen, openly lesbian Heather West defends Hell's Kitchen host Gordon Ramsay from reports that the sharp-tongued Brit called an Australian newswoman a "lesbian pig."
"He did not call her a lesbian," she said. "He did call her a pig, and later apologized to her. He has never had a problem with it. In fact, all three sous chefs on the show have been lesbians and he has many other lesbians working for him. He's always been cool with it."
The former Port Jefferson, New York sous chef added that the rumor was just blown out of proportion thanks to "the game of the telephone" - "And however it happened and whether someone twisted it and it got out that way, I can tell you that he never treated me any differently or had any problem with me being a lesbian."
West, who won a senior chef position at a multi-million-dollar restaurant in the billion dollar Red Rock Resort Spa and Casino thanks to her Hell's Kitchen win, further revealed that while she wasn't out to everyone before the show started filming, "two days before I left, I made sure everyone knew."
She said that prior to filming, Hell's Kitchen people even asked her if she was OK if her sexuality was made central to her story.
"It's not who I am, it just happens to be what I am. There's a lot more to me than just being a lesbian. Plus, it's a cooking show, it's not a dating show - so I didn't want it to be focused on more than necessary."
West is no longer connected with the Red Rock Resort Spa and Casino restaurant and now works at the Monsieur Marcel French Bistro in Los Angeles, California.
