Family Guy Season 8, Episode 18: "Quagmire's Dad" Review

Quagmire has been one of Family Guy's most bankable characters for quite some time, and most would agree that he would have been more worthy of a spin-off than Cleveland. But there's no doubt that the weekly adventures in Quahog wouldn't be the same without Quagmire, and the episodes that focus on him are usually pretty entertaining. Surprisingly, this story didn't really give us much of Quagmire and instead ended up being largely a Brian episode, which I found rather disappointing.

The show opens with Brian leaving for a few days for a seminar on web-based Internet shows. It's a suitably pretentious concept that puts Brian on that high horse he often rides on, only to be knocked off later. This episode doesn't waste any time knocking him down a few pegs, as the jokes in these first few minutes mainly revolve around Lois and Peter not really caring if he leaves. While the intro is good for setting the tone, the jokes here really aren't all that amusing.

Speaking of not being amusing, I have to say the cutaway gags in this one were particularly horrible. The joke with Kirstie Alley, pie, and Adam West counts as one of the lamest things I've seen on the show recently. The Aquaman skit was just stupid, and the alien in a grass skirt was utterly useless.
