I wonder what came first, the script for "The Moms" or the booking of Betty White for the Mother's Day episode of Saturday Night Live this week. My guess is the script, since the only real connection between the fictional world of 30 Rock and the real world of SNL is that both are presenting a mothers episode of their respective sketch comedy show. But the lack of direct reference to the brouhaha over Betty White's guest stint in no way hinders the fun comedy to be had on Thursday night's episode of 30 Rock.
The series brought back several of the mothers we've spent time with before, including Liz's mom, Jack's mother Colleen and Jenna's mother Verna who we met earlier this season. Patti Lupone even reprised her role as Frank's mom in a couple of small scenes. Plus we got to meet Lutz's mother and the resemblance was uncanny. Tracy's was the only mother "TGS" couldn't track down, even with Tracy's helpful guidance: "Her name might be Cheryl and she was wearing a red shirt in 1984." Verna's storyline from earlier in the season progressed in "The Moms," as she continued to try and play the part of a good mother in exchange for payment from Jack.
