Interview With 'So You Think You Can Dance' Co-Creator Nigel Lythgoe


As the co-creator and on-going producer of So You Think You Can Dance, Nigel Lythgoe comes closer than anyone to being the voice of the show. One never knows when his off-the-cuff musings will become the series' next big development. When Nigel talks everyone listens.


I spoke with the gangly Brit minutes after he closed the curtain on So You Think You Can Dance's, best season ever, in my personal opinion. He (and a team of far more anonymous creative geniuses) had just finished off a masterpiece, like a novelist typing "The End."


The consummate professional, he was still very composed. As always, his British accent and gangly demeanor lent him a tone of both formality and eccentricity. He's a warm wit and an unassuming leader.


I asked Nigel how the night unfolded behind the scenes as Russell's injury changed everything that evening. He shared the exciting possibility of an American Idol crossover show in Vegas, and updated us on plans for a tour, and on whether the show's future lies in the fall or the summer.
