With just a precious few episodes left in the series, "The Last Recruit" does an exceptional job of moving the plot forward. As the episode begins, Jack's group makes contact with The Man in Black and his followers. This sets both MiB's and Sawyer's plans in motion. Meanwhile, Desmond continues to interfere in the lives of Flight 815 passengers as the pieces of the flash-sideways puzzle begin to find their place. It's a transition episode, make no mistake about it, but there are plenty of key reunions and another important question answered.
Even if it isn't technically a Jack/Locke scene, the Jack and MiB scene felt like coming home again. Their interaction felt very similar to that of Jack and Locke, although I got the distinct impression that Jack was a little bothered by MiB's attitude towards Locke's belief that they were meant to be on the island. Now that Jack has adopted that very same philosophy, he's forced into a position to defend someone that he once disagreed with so vehemently. We have come a long way.
