My Generation: "Pilot" Review

Nothing gets my dander up more than a show that tries so hard to infuse a sense of zeitgeist, and force a sense of purpose, onto a premise that could work so much better using subtly and restraint. In short: ABC's My Generation is a slack, on-the-nose series about late 20-somethings whose lives have been ham-fistedly changed by the touchtone events of the past decade. A documentary film crew, which followed a cliched ragtag group of nine graduating teens at an Austin, Texas high school (nerd, punk, rock star, prom queen, jock, richie rich, etc), now turns their cameras on the gang ten years later to see what's become of their lives and if any of them managed to make anything of themselves.
