Should Smallville Come to an End?

With the departures (sort of) of Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) and Kristin Kreuk (Lana), followed by the departures of show creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, as well as the general aging of some of the cast (*cough* Tom Welling) and some recent sub-par storylines, Buddy TV poses the question,

Is it Time for Smallville to Come to an End?

What do you guys think?

I think he needs to hurry up and become Superman. There isn't much left they can use to delay him continuing his training. I think they should end smallville and make it the justice league.

Ya I think Smallville should finish soon, it really bothers me when they have Clark hold back so much of the time when he supposed to be superman. Justice league idea souns interesting and possibly quite good, it would need to have Clark in full hardcore determined Superman persona though.

Well as much as I love Smallville I know that it will have to come to an end soon. I mean in Lois and Clark at the beginning of the series Clark was around 25ish I would say and so soon they will have to stop Smallville. I really wish that in Season 8 they will actually get Clark into the Daily Planet or at least make it seem like he is interested in reporting because in seasons 1-4 he was on the paper but it seems that he doesn't even care about reporting and well it is a big thing that I feel should be done. With this being said as much as I love Smallville I don't think they can keep the show going on much longer and when they end it they should make a justice league spin off or even some sort of superman spin off which would be cool to.

I hope if in fact next season is the end that they finish the season properly where clark can fly and possibly helps green arrows team (justice league) more and maybe has romance with lois......i just hope they can atleast partially finish the story of how superman came to be who he is as we know him today with the episodes left in this season and next season

they need to finish this season the way they are going and end the season with an option for clark to becom a reporter, maybe chloe dies and he starts to report in memory of her or she leaves and he feels the need to report the news for her or something of that nature, and end the series next season and send clark off for training and he comes back and moves to metropolis and is a reporter and becomes superman.....yes, tom welling as superman in metropolis, under a different show name, the justice leauge idea is a good one, too, that would be awesome too, but they should continue what has worked....superman, always will be a winner, dont know how the justice leauge idea will pass with everyone.

I read somewhere that "Metropolis" will be the show planned to follow "Smallville." I think that it would be a good idea to transition the characters and plot from one to the other, and I think that transition needs to begin soon. I personally believe the purpose of Smallville has been fulfilled: to show how Clark Kent grew up and to show how he became the man who became Superman. He's already grown up, and he's experienced enough to make the right decisions to fully become Superman.
I believe the sooner Clark leaves his farm life behind and fully embraces taking up a second identity to save the world, the better. If they can't fit the transition in what's remaining of this season (I certainly don't want them to make a rash decision and throw it together last minute), then Season 8 should fulfill that role.
Actually, I think that could make Season 8 a true highlight season in the series. It would be the whole point of everything we've watched so far. Each episode we'd see him actually becoming Superman. He'd complete his training at the Fortress and finally understand why Jor-el has been how he's been. He let go of his high school crush after realizing that it will never really work, and that'll allow him to move forward. He can draw on the guidance of both his fathers to firmly become the man who stands for truth and justice, and he can revive his interest in the news to help him fight for those two ideals. He can finish mastering his powers. And he can end the season with his sight set on Metropolis and fly off with his new costume he just had his mother help him design.
It would be the season we've all been waiting for, and it would just make us want "Metropolis" to follow it all the more.

I agree with Poocho's comments. I, for one, do not want to see Daddy Luthor revisit his evil side just for the sake of filling episodes. Time to get this off the ground (laugh).

Though it is by and large one of my favorite series i have to admit - enough already.I'm glad to have gotten a deeper insight into the whos, hows and whys of sir kent and all but really - let's just move on. it's time for him to embrace... his mantle already.
actually i thought that by now, they'd have finished smallville and had a new show like... Metropolis [corny yes] chronicling the Man who would be man's greatest hero in this new environment.

Depends. I'd love to be a fly on the wall as the new creative team decide what to do with the show. Souders and Petersen were top writers so they should know how to handle it. Disagree with Justice League idea, too much like X-Men, Fantastic Four and usual superhero stuff. It's the human side and Clark's struggle that made the show great. I'd miss Smallville but better to let it go than let it lose its soul. Maybe get Clark into reporter mode, light the Lois flame and see him at least thinking about accepting his destiny. I don't know for sure, but that's why no one pays me thousands of dollars (or pounds) to develop plotlines. Hope the new team succeed - it's still a top show.

I think they shound do season 8 if they stop the Lana drama and show more clark and Lois maybe a little less Lex aswell. And they need to have more justice league and more Clark becoming Superman (no more lana)

I have been hoping for them to go on to superman...........and also have a separate JLA with Superman and the rest that have been appearing in Smallville from time to time. It certainly has looked as though it was going in that direction. If Lex is going to be a guest once in a while then they can start to rise up some of those other bad guys.

Clark should definately learn to fly asap as that whole concept is groing tired a bit.as for the cape?he was a bit older than the clark being played in smallville.the last two episodes should be one where he flies off to discover himself. Then the final episode he comes back-a few years older ready to put on the cape-Enter bumbling Clark to interview Lex who is so gone by then he doesnt even acknowledge his relationship with CK

A Justice League spin-off is a great idea I think :D I LOVE Green Arrow :D Very hot character. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing him a bit more.

I love this show so much, and as much as i dont want it to end, it needs to. It's been great seeing him grow from a fresman to a man and all, but it needs to end before the length ruins the show. PLUS, they NEED an EPISODE WITH BATMAN!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY, thats all i ask, before the show ends, they need to meet BATMAN. But yea, season 8 should be the end, and he needs to fly, save Lois's life, and let go of Lana.

Smallville should end! It's really getting boring now. Clark is still the same Clark as he was in past seasons, there's not much to watch to be honest. I also think TOm Welling doesn't look great, he looks a bit old for a young man who hasn't found his strenght to become a real superman. The writer should start sorting this out now, otherwise people will lose interest, and by the way when is he flying?

in response to squeegeebeckenheim, there's no way they can have Smallville lead into Lois and Clark, since Clark and Lois have never met, nor have Lois and Lex, and, most of all, Jonathan Kent is still alive. Unless they have some serious plot twists, that's not going to happen.
I like saintnick247's idea, though.
In any case, Clark needs to fly and soon.

I just posted this to another thread here, but it's worth repeating:
I think the final scene in the final episode of "Smallville" should show Clark in the full Superman costume, flying away from the farm and into the distance. It would be, in my estimation, the perfect way to end the show.

I don't think it should end yet as Clark hasn't got real close to Lois and they need to get a link up to at least finish the show but not just Clark has to learn to fly but he also needs to move on from love of the family and just be able to do what he wants without going back, but I think it should go way further, not until at least season 10, but I don't think it need to rush as Clark has a lot of things going through, but he should start to get revealed, and also bring someone else in the story and make thing hard for Clark, but I don't see the point of ending it so soon, from now to the end(when ever that will be), just make everything go hard for everyone and make it every exciting, as not just in action but also in love, if this show ends now then theres nothing that can replace this show.

just about everyone's comments are right clark has to do mayor changes to be able to end the series just like everyone said he needs to get closer to louis, becoming a reporter, and what happens to everyone around him for them not to be around when he becomes superman as i don't remember most of this characters in the comics and much less lex using them against superman cause if they did have moved am sure lex with all of his power he would have found then and used them against him sure they can't do this in just a few episodes as it would suck just for everything to end so quickly but i don't think they can go past season 9 or 10 cause i am really getting sick of them making him look like a love sick puppy he needs to men up and more then anything learn to fly i mean come on he should of been able to do that atleast at season 5 or 6 and sure a justice league sounds good i just hope this ppl don't look too old in it and more then that to get someone to play the parts right and make someone believe that they could be superman and such well with that said i hope someone from the show reads this and make things happen
