No doubt that if you watched 'All My Children' last Friday, you're aware that David Hayward is dead! That's right, the villain has been vanquished, which means that Vincent Irizarry is done with 'AMC.' Irizarry. Vince is a fantastic soap star who's been a hit on a bunch of shows, including 'Guiding Light' (twice -- once as Lujack and once as Nick McHenry) as well as 'Santa Barbara,' and a really nasty turn on 'The Young and the Restless' as David Chow.
That said, why did 'AMC' let Dr. Hayward die? According to a Soap Opera Digest interview with head writers David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski, "We really felt that this had been building for some time, that even before we started, David had made a lot of choices and done a lot of things to a lot of people, and that it all sort of builds to this moment. He needed to pay for his crimes one way or another."
However, is Vincent really gone? Well, probably, but read what the actor has posted on his Facebook page: "I can't say enough how appreciative I am of all the comments on websites and message boards that have been written in support of my work and my character. There would be no doubt to me whatsoever, if I do return to 'AMC,' it will be in greater part because of this wonderful outpouring from all of you who love the show and David as much as I do. I am forever grateful to all of you."
