Gossip Girl: The Age of Dis..appointment - Featured

Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled that Gossip Girl has finally returned to our TV screens, but if we are being completely honest, I was a little underwhelmed with last night's episode, "The Age of Dissonance".

The episode had some funny moments: the play which devolved into the characters airing their grievances with one another on stage, which the NY Times critic hilariously thought was intentional and "genius" was a clever idea.

But...many of the individual story lines left me disappointed. Major concerns:

1. Jenny, Nate and Vanessa = Useless - Is it me, or has GG kind of hit an impasse regarding what to do with these 3? Tonight, Jenny sewed some costumes and inadvertently ratted out Dan. Vanessa filmed a documentary (because she's never done that before...) and Blair briefly lashes out at her for all that is wrong in the world. Lastly, Nate's relationship with Vanessa is briefly threatened (hint: it's because they have no chemistry!) - for the 3000th time.

Since the conclusion of Jenny's wild fashion designing days/return to school and the resolution of Nate's financial woes/hookup with Vanessa, these characters have been without purpose and stagnant. They need something new and exciting...and they need it now!

2. Why so speedy with Dan and Rachel Carr? - I really felt like Gossip Girl blazed through this story line for no good reason. There was so much more they could have done with it before ending it! I was kind of looking forward to a few episodes of a hidden student/teacher love affair, but instead, over the course of an episode, Dan is in love, then pulls a 180, decides Rachel is evil (and really...was she?) and Rachel leaves. Kind of rushed, don't you think?

3. Chuck's at his best when he's bantering with Blair or bro-mancing with Nate - I was less drawn to Chuck Bass this evening than I usually am...and I think it's because I wasn't really feeling the independent story line. Furthermore, the resolution of the secret society arc seemed kind of uninspired. Elle using Chuck for money (and nothing more) seemed quite predictable.

4. Blair and Serena -I swear, Blair and Serena's friendship is bipolar. Last time we saw them, B and S were 2 buddy buddy peas in a pod, but then this week they hate each other again. I can't keep track. And it drives me crazy.

So...am I alone here or were some of you too disappointed with this week's GG return?

Haha, I really like that idea of "Partners in Gossip."

Blair and Chuck honestly need to be that "one couple" that stays together through out the whole series seeing that they're the ONLY couple that works together in this show. Them together would be more interesting then them trying to get together. I mean with all the drama affecting Blair and Chuck individually (which is extremely boring...) it would be interesting to see how they handle it together as couple. Kind of like Partners in Crime only Partners in Gossip haha :)

Ohh man, otty needs to chill. Anyways, I enjoyed the episode. It wasn't as good as it should have been after making everyone wait so long though. I do enjoy the B/S arc though. I feel like it's one of the few things that has actually stayed true to the book.

I was also very disappointed with last night's episode. The OMG promo showed what was definitely Chuck and Blair hooking up (at the end). This morning I went on Ed Westwick's fansite (I know, pretty sad) because it always gives off info about what is coming up. There's about 500 pictures of Blair and Chuck making out on his limo bearing flowers and gifts all around. I think it's safe to say that Blair and Chuck will be getting back together in due time (surely only to be ruined as fast as Rachel and Dan) despite her horrible screw up with Carter. By the way, does anyone else feel that Chuck is going back to Blair as a last resort? I'm not satisfied with how they set that up at all. Here's the link for the fansite, check it out!

I definitely feel like they're not taking advantage of some of their created storylines - no way should Dan and Rachel have ran out of steam so quickly! I did love Rufus showing up at Rachel's apartment though, now that's a wake-up call to have your boyfriend's dad pop in on you to set you straight. I feel like they're creating these 'shockers' like Dan and Rachel, Nate and Vanessa, and Jenny's fashion craziness, then don't know what to do with them, so they just let them fall apart and go away. I'm hoping for some really good drama with the re-created Nate-Blair-Chuck triangle next week that will hopefully get us back on track with some juicy Gossip Girl scandals that last a little longer!

WTF?? speaking of bipolar...maybe otty1994 (above) has a little crazy too!!haha i do agree, to a point, that last nights episode didn't live up to the hype of those crazy-good OMG preview clips. and i'm already upset that chuck realized he needs to stick with someone who cares, i.e. Blair, but of course Blair is going to screw things up before they even start. it always happens like that, one way or the other. GAH!! please just let them be together or hate each other. both situations would be better than what's about to happen. the second act of the stage play was FABULOUS though!!! i was laughing so hard but then smothering myself so i could hear them talk :) hahaha it was great to see everyone just break down and say what they wanted to say. i thought that was the best part of the episode. OH but how lame was it for dan to do the wrist kiss on rachel like it was all him and his sexiness and then we see it was from the show??!!! everyone still loves GG of course, but they better bring some more drama next week!

yep, it wasn't the best. I didn't like that they ended Dan & Rachel so quickly.

You are definitely not alone. I agree with everything you've said. In particular the B/S arc and the Dan/Rachel arc (or lack thereof). I was convinced I must have missed an episode or something. The whole episode really was just blah and sub-par.
