Thursday's Premieres: Save 'Em or Sink 'Em? - Featured

Last night gave us the premieres of not one or two, but 3 new programs!

On NBC we saw the premiere of Amy Poehler's new sitcom, Parks & Recreation. Originally thought to be a spinoff of The Office, the show later evolved into its own series (from the producers of The Office) that still resembled The Office in its mocumentary style. So...did it do it for you? Was it too similar to The Office, but not as funny?

Premiering in ER's old time slot was new cop drama Southland about inner city LA. I am not going to lie...I was mainly excited about this one to see Benjamin McKenzie (The O.C.) back on TV. So...this was the second new police series to premiere on TV this week (The Unusuals bowing Wednesday on ABC); did you like it?

Finally, island murder mystery series Harper's Island premiered on CBS. If nothing else, this show is an interesting concept in that it's a limited run series consisting of 13 episodes...where someone dies each week.

So...which of these new series did you like? Hate? Didn't watch 'em? Discuss!

P&R was terrible. It was trying too hard to be funny... which made it boring. I just watched it to watch the new Office right after it.

Southland looked incredible; a completely new genre of cop shows. The casting is also fantastic. I predict big things for this show.

Southland was awesome, great drama series. Parks and Recreation was terrible, they tried to hard to be funny but I'll give it one more shot I'll watch the second episode after all the first one was just a pilot. I hope the Office writers fix their mistake.

- Still haven't watched P&R but I love Amy Poehler so I'm really rooting for her. She deserves a great show!
- Southland looks pretty amazing and I'm looking forward to great things in its future!
- Harper's Island was a tad boring for me at certain parts, but the ending of the episode sort of saved it. I'm really digging the horror vibe plus the fact that they aren't skimping out on the gore (keeping TV taste in mind, of course)

P&R was far cleverer than the office, just wasn't as laugh out loud funny

@avenger421 - I hadn't actually had the chance to watch P&R yet when I made this post and was expecting it to be horrendous based on these comments and what some other critics said (many hated it).I wouldn't say it was cleverer than The Office, but I did not think it was terrible; there definitely were some clever lines...and I even did laugh out loud a few times; Aziz Ansari's delivery of anything made it funny!

I don't care for the Office, but I did think this was funny.I'll give it a few more episodes before I make my choice.

I've only seen a few episodes of the Office, which were hilarious, but I hate watching shows in the middle of their run, so I never watch it religiously. So when Parks and Recreation premiered I figured I'd watch that. I thought it was funny. From what I saw of the Office it was a bit better (and no one can replace Michael) but Amy Poehler (who I usually hate for the reason of trying to hard to be funny) was good. I thought it was good! Not anything genius...but it was definitely humorous...

Oh! And Southland was not anything special to me. I too watched it for Ben Mckenzie and it was good..but there was something about it that bugged me. It was almost confusing. And the person that killed the girl...that was just dumb. They could've done better stuff. I don't know. The only good part was the Ben Mckenzie was right scene, in my opinion.

I just watched p&r. It seemed like the office, but not as funny. We'll see how it goes.

i thought southland was amazing!! was proper gritty and not look other cop shows, i mean at the beginging when they were arressting people at first glance i thought id clicked he wrong button because t looked so authentic!! and benjamin mckenzie was great i cant wait to hear his story cause he has such an element of mystery, and all other members of cast were great to!! im waiting for great things to come from this show.
havent watched p&r because i dont like the office british or american version anyway so im guessing i wont like that.

sorry I'm late to te game, but Southland, that was awesome!
and yes, Parks and Rec, was pretty low on the funny scale... Amy needs to pick it up a notch...

Parks and Recreation: 6/10 (would like it more if it actually was a spinoff of The Office, or that existed in the same "universe")
Southland: 9/10 (I really really liked it!!! And was pleasently surprised with it, even though the beeping of the 4 letter words was a bummer...)
Harper's Island: 7/10 (it's different from what we've seen, but I feel it will get tiresome if it goes beyond the 13 episodes)
True Blood can't come fast enough!

Didn't watch the other ones, but Park and Recreation just wasn't very funny. Watching it felt a bit awkward and slightly embarrassing.

Parks and Rec look ok based on the priviews. Haven't really had time to watch the show.
Now as for Southland....that was absolutely incredible. I don't know what you guys are going concerning yourselves with Harpers Island and P&R but Southland is deffinately worth giving a try.
