Project Runway Season 6, Episode 2: "Mommy Chic" - Recap

On Thursday's Project Runway, a very pregnant Rebecca Romijn (the show was taped when the twins were still in her belly) stopped by to ask the designers to create a chic maternity look for her.

The contestants came up with a wide variety of garments, including what appeared to be a bowling ball bag by Ra'mon and some lingerie from Louise. Shirin's stunningly draped burgundy dress with a lined coat and Althea's midnight-blue dress with a lattice ribbon bodice were the top two designs. Shirin was ultimately named the winner, and we couldn't agree more - there are probably women who would strap on a prosthetic baby bump just to wear that dress.

Malvin and Mitchell were in the bottom two. While Mitchell's design looked cheap and trashy (we love that Heidi ripped him a new one for his sloppy execution), words can't even describe the horror of Malvin's "Mother Hen," garment, which got him auf'ed. Guess he lived up to his claim in the premiere that his designs are "ineffable."

Did anyone else catch Malvin's comment about being "too conceptual for America"? We'd like to know in which country he thinks a pregnant woman would actually wear that monstrosity.

I was disappointed by the result of the show. I thought Malvin would have brought creativity and a fresh perspective to the show. I was looking forward to his ideas and executions. He made for a very interesting contestant. On the other hand, until now (though only episode 2), Mitchell just brings a lot of empty talk. There are plenty of reality shows for that, no need to pollute this one.
