Characters We Love to Hate

Yahoo TV has a fun feature listing those characters on TV shows that are dastardly and evil, yet we love 'em anyway.

Here's the full feature: When Good is Oh So Bad

The list includes:

1. Janice Dickinson (The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency)

2. Ari Gold (Entourage)

3. Benjamin Linus (Lost)

4. Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl)

5. Amanda Tanen and Marc St. James (Ugly Betty)

6. Gaius Baltar (Battlestar Galactica)

7. Andrea (Samantha Who?)

8. Devon Banks (30 Rock, played by Will Arnett)

9. Pete Campbell (Mad Men)

10. Brian Darling (Dirty Sexy Money)

Who's your favorite baddie? Who do you think is missing from this list?

Oh it's so hard to choose a favorite - such fantastic nasty characters! Since I can't pick just one, my favs go to Ugly Betty's Amanda and Marc, Gossip Girl's Blair and Chuck, and Entourage's Ari Gold. I'd love to add a Lostie on there, but Ben just creeps me out too much to get to that wonderful love-hate feeling.

Respectfully, I have to disagree with your selection of Ari Gold on this list of tv characters that we love to hate. For me at least, Ari, while not exactly a model of outstanding behavior, is a character of great integrity, a person who has strong convictions, and who is not afraid to stick to these convictions, regardless of how others might feel about him as a result. This is reflected in the intense manner he assumes while working as an agent. I see the not so pleasant aspects of his work ethic (e.g. his somewhat harsh treatment of Lloyd and the rest of the Miller Gold staff), as part of what it takes, in the business of being a Hollywood agent, to survive and thrive. The most telling proof that his extreme behavior is not meant to be hurtful is in his relationship with Lloyd. Ari is a very homophobic man, yet despite this fact he has a connection with Lloyd that, I feel, is quite positive. Ari is reluctant to admit it, but it is clear that he is fond of Lloyd, and even feels protective over him (as illustrated by his rescuing of the young man from a malevolent tv writer in a gay bar). His relationship with Lloyd has really become the heart of the series, and is just one of the many reasons that Ari is a complex character, one that I find fascinating to watch. In other words, Ari Gold is a character I love to love.

Ari Gold for sure! He can be real mean some time but you gotta love him!
